Troy has two games in Louisana that I plan to attend. I'd like to stay in New Orleans for both games. Can anyone help me out on suggesting a decent hotel that is walking distance to some nice areas? Hopefully in the $65 -- $100 range.

You can get away with staying in New Orleans for the game against LSU (not much to do in Baton Rouge except for LSU football), but when you come to play the Cajuns, I'd suggest staying in Lafayette. Lots of great places to eat and hotels are popping up left and right here. If you want to stay in Lafayette, just ask either me or Swamphound (he probably knows more than me). Trust me, its a hell of a lot better than New Orleans.

Very true CM02, I do not know much about the hotels in New Orleans I can check on it this weekend whe I go to my other job. I can recommend hotels and/or places to eat in the Lafayette area. :D

N'awlins is about a 2 hour drive from Cajun Field if you drive fast. If you drive I-10 from N.O., you pass thru Baton Rouge before Lafayette. There is about a 15 mile bridge over the Swamp separating Baton Rouge from Lafayette. If there is a wreck on the bridge, you could be stuck there for HOURS. If you stay in N.O., travel HWY 90 to Lafayette. You by-pass Baton Rouge and the bridge. It's also a prettier drive.

Now, the place to stay in N.O. for families or couples that want to sight-see is the Hilton-Riverside. It's connected to the Riverwalk(nice), and is walking distance to the French Quarter, Jackson Square, and Boubon St.(adults-only). Prices vary, but I would guess it would be about $100 per night.

Lafayette doesn't have the attractions like N'awlins, yet, but it does have plenty of new, nice, cheap hotels. If you want to spend a little money, the Hotel Acadiana is where celebrities stay when they come to Lafayette. There are a plethora of very good restaurants and pretty good party places in town.

04-cheers

Guess again on the Hilton-Riverside. I called and the rates were between $400-$500 a night. La Place looks like it is close enough to Lafayette and New Orleans. I'm thinking more and more to just stay in Lafayette Saturday night and get up early Sunday morning and spend some time in Nawlins.

If I take 90 instead of I-10 it looks like a much longer drive.

Good call. Sunday mornings at Cafe Du Monde in the Quarter is great!!!

Actually its not. Its about 120 miles from Lafayette to N'awlins on I-10, but I-10 is a dangerous drive between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Trust me. If there is an accident anywhere on I-10, you're looking at being 1-2 hours behind schedule.

Hwy 90 brings you to some nice little towns along the way. You will hit some random construction zones (nothing big) as the state continues to prepare Hwy 90 into I-49. From Lafayette to N'awlins on Hwy 90 is about 130 miles. The extra 10 miles is worth it. Most parts of Hwy 90 you can drive about 65-70 like an Interstate highway.

In Lafayette, try (in order of probable price range highest to lowest)

Hilton (on Pinhook Rd) 337-235-6111
Hotel Acadiana (on Pinhook Rd) 337-233-8120
Best Suites (on Kaliste Saloom Rd)
Courtyard (on Kaliste Saloom Rd) 337-232-5005
Hamton Inn and Suites (on Kaliste Saloom Rd) 337-266-5858

Any of these are pretty nice. The Hampton is the newest of the 4, they just had their grand opening last month.

We stayed at the Clarion on Canal Street. It's a bit of a walk to the French Quarter but it was a very nice hotel and reasonably priced. NO has good mass transit so we could take the bus pretty much anywhere too far to walk.

My wife and I stayed at the Wyndham Whitney on Poydras, within walking distance of the casino and the quarter. We were there a year ago this month and paid around $80 a night. I'm not sure what it is now. Nice place, converted Whitney Bank building with a branch bank still functioning inside. Very nice rooms, clean, granit floors and countertops in the bath. Nice place.
