Have we bucked the trend of basically every MAC school (or any D1 school for that matter) and decided to stay away from the south East for "speed"? Our Indiana, Wisconsin and IL players along with the MO guys are flying around just fine. And looking at different websites for guys we have looked at I do not see any one from the south east.

Is the south east speed a rumor we are proving wrong? Or is it just proving the point that there is only so much talent down there and we aren't wasting our time on guys who wouldn't get a D1 offer had the lived somewhere North?

Just look at Poor ball state, they get guys from Ga and FL, Look at Temple, the have a TON of Florida guys...They aren't doing so great.

There are some really good players in the state of Florida. Omar Jacobs is from Florida, as is Charles Sharon. They are two of BG's best players.

Toledo has 5 kids from Florida on the team and one of them is playing right away as a true freshman.

You just have to be careful with the Florida kids because some of them really aren't as good as them seem in high school and some of them have academic issues.

We've had more issues with Florida kids in the last decade than success.

IMO, the southern speed thing is overrated. Speed kills, but you can get speed in a lot of places - you just want to have a lot of it.

Based on what I have seen at Toledo and a few other MAC schools, yes. And it looks like HD says the same has happened at NIU.

The Florida schools overall are not as good as in the midwest. Sarasota
has the best schools in the State and even we have football players get
into academic trouble.

One reason that Florida produces so many good players is that football
is king by far. Baseball has decent support, basketball is not too popular,
wrestling scarce, and hockey almost nonexistent.

If you're a good high school athlete in Florida you play football.

I'm not saying that florida doesn't produce any talent, but maybe some overrated talent.

BGSU got 2 good ones, and NIU has a pretty good one in evans adonnis. I'm sure toledo does too. But i think the point i'm making is that Maybe our Midwest players are better than the south east players. I wouldn't take any runningback over G. Wolfe. I like our 2 chicago freshman corners better than i'd probably like any SouthEast corners. And looking at the top 25, and looking at historical National Championships it just seems the midwest is better.

If schools like ball state, and temple would stop being stupid and trying to recruit the #500 prospect from Fla and settle for some Midwest guys out of IL and Ohio think of how much better they would be. NIU has walk ons who end up starting all of the time, wouldn't Temple or Ball State be better served if they offered those guys scholarships instead of the florida/georgia guys who suck?

Maybe this is a comparable stat or maybe not. So take it for what it's worth.

When I was in high school in the early 90s, everyone talked about the baseball talent from California and Texas. However, at that time, there were more High Schoolers drafted out of Illinois than any other state.

I do not believe that kids from Fla have any more speed than kids from Idaho. I do not believe that kids from Fla have any more academic or behavioral problems than kids from Detroit, Cleveland or Chicago.

I do believe that that there are a fair number of kids that might visit from a southern state that become disillusioned with a mid major after experiencing a rough winter. I do believe that kids from the Chicago area know more what to expect when committing to a school like NIU. I do believe that there are some very talented kids that will go to a school like NIU so their families can see them play.

Frankly I do not have a clue how coach Novak seduced so many talented local players into coming to our school in his early years. He did though and this thing is feeding on itself BIG TIME. Our story is getting better and better and we have a lot more to sell than we did ten years ago.

With they palyers we are sending to the NFL, the competition that we are playing, our radio and television coverage and with all of the people living near our campus, Joe has put something in place that can be very special beyond his tenure as head coach. Each year he stays it becomes a bit stronger, and each year he stays it increases the possibility that our program could stand a misfire in hiring a new head coach down the road.

God bless the guy, I hope he coaches for a minimum of another 5 years!
