Quote: Plus, we screw up so often (witness the fouls) and turn the ball over so often that the opposition can play conservatively against us. This lack of an inside game is just killing us.

True dat! If you really look at the storyline since the MAC season began, it seems like teams just try and keep it close and wait for us to beat ourselves, and sure enough, we don't disappoint game after game.... 03-banghead

You guys are right, it's more our lack of aggressiveness that's causing these discrepancies.

I agree. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. Everyone is sick of my diatribes lamenting the severe lack of talent on this team outside of Marcus Smallwood. Once he is gone it will be a huge leap to expect Cyrus Tate, Zach Pancratz and Frank Clair to immediately step in and be major contributors. Unfortunately, next season will likely be very ugly. The year following should be materially better though. I guess this is what needs to keep us going.

See where PJ Smith was 4 for 19 from the field. Nice. The same theme was repeated versus Ball State based on the game summary, namely the lethal combination of no inside game and poor outside shooting. At least Michael McKinney and Paige Paulsen logged some minutes.

Judson keeps making comments like he did and he is going to lose me as a supporter. 03-banghead

Some of you, mostly Flying Corn, convinced me to be more patient with James Hughes. That patience has officially worn thin. We need to face facts. Judson seems to have struck out with all three of the big men he took a flyer on as developmental projects (Hughes, Rome Sanders and the invisible Bryan McKenzie). Either the talent isn't there or the work effort isn't there or the developmental coaching ability of Judson and staff isn't there. Lets hope Cyrus Tate and Craig Reichel can learn in a real big hurry next year.

"Paging Jonathan Byrd, paging Jonathan Byrd....the bus to take you out of town has arrived."

What can I say? Hughes showed me the most of the three big men we have during the first few games of the season.

If the kid does have any potential, it's not liable to be tapped when he's only playing 2 minutes at a stretch. It really seems like he's gotten in Judson's doghouse. The last few games the pattern seems to be he checks in for a minute or two, immediately picks up a foul, and Judson immediately takes him out. Not likely to see much developemnt happen that way...

Regardless, Hughes is, at best, a role player. We'll definitely need a more solid player inside to turn this thing around.

Heres hoping Cyrus Tate is an even better college player than he is a HS player. Not likely, but about the best we can hope for at the current moment....

Nice line for Paulsen last night. 5 for 8 fg 2 for 2 ft 3 off rebs 1 steal and only 1 to 23 to in any game will hurt you. Still think they will make a run. getting to the foul line would help.

Paulsen also had a decent game against Ohio. His presumed development is one of the few bright spots in the last few weeks.

Different opinions exist for the individual players on this team. No matter how you slice though there is ample to be depressed about. If this year hasn't turned out ugly enough, imagine next year without Marcus Smallwood. I for one will be OK with next year being ugly, only, and I mean only, if Judson has a firm commitment to significantly play the freshmen (Tate, Pancratz, Clair) and what will be the sophmores (Paulsen, Paradise, McKinney). I want Judson to do exactly what Tommy Amaker at Michigan is doing right now. Right now the Wolverines are playing a total of ten freshmen and sophmore.

I will be an angry man if next year I have to see much of what will be the juniors and one senior (Byrd....argh).

Memo to Coach Rob Judson:

Play Paige Paulsen, play Michael McKinney and play James Hughes big minutes the rest of the way no matter what the consequence to game outcome. The time is NOW to be in 100% developmental mode for the future.

Memo to AD Cary Groth:

Deduct $1,000 from Rob Judson's salary for each game he allows either Walter Thompson, Al Sewascuik or Jonathan Byrd to hit the court.

Memo to President Peters:

Read the riot act to Coach Judson on the poor state of his men's hoops team. Give him an ultimatum. Start getting this program pointed in the right direction and get more fannies in the seats of our $38 million investment called the Convo Center or find a new job.
