I don't know crazywilly! Maybe we can find teams from the old Big West Conference. 03-lol

If Toledo is still in the MAC when it falters to 6 teams, I have faith that Toledo will find a new conference and be just fine. Although, I am not so sure that the MAC will be down to 6 teams with the new attendance requirements. That would mean 6 teams won't make it. There are teams that will do better when they are forced to. There are ways around it.

At the least the MAC should still consist of:

Toledo
BGSU
NIU
CMU
WMU
BSU
Miami
Ohio

I also think that either Akron or Kent, if not both, will make it. EMU and Buffalo are in serious trouble though.

Oh come on........people from Toledo can't be that stupid! We are smart enough to hold a 25-6 all-time record against NIU!

Alum i think you have to realize that you have the most uninformed posts of all time. You have no stats to back up way you say, you pull stuff out of your ****** 90% of the time, and you pretend that people post ****** they don't...so implying that messageboard and myself are not credible is the dumbest thing i think i have ever read, coming from a man who cries when someone makes fun of football players who suck, but then when its basketball season its ok. Your a strange strange man...

Your a moron, and i thought you were ignoring me, but turns out that lasted all of what, 5mins??????? Ignore me ***** i'm sick of reading my name in your posts.

CHRIS PERRY #1 RUNNING BACK IN THE DRAFT...thats some nice insight from a draft geek...But like i said before and i'll say again, just because you are a geek doesn't make you smart.

I'm sure dumb people can win every once in a while, but to win consistently you have to have the smarts to analyze film on the opposing teams and to know what works best on your team. Smart coaches and smart players are needed.

So yeah, winning consistenly (10 straight winning seasons) does = smart.

Like Florida State? (Real Smart Guys, Chris Rix!!!!!!!)

Like the Caines? (Frank Gore, Ever hear him speak?)

I think winning game takes talent.

Analyzing film doesn't require you to be too smart. Your coach tells you what to do, all you have to do is listen. 03-banghead 03-banghead

Funny how this was started about making a comment on a Rocket fan being dumb and now we are talking about how smart some players are.

There are some exceptions to athletes.....guys that have god-given talent (gifted) and would actually be even better if they were smarter.

There is this other thing called "I am smart at some things but not others." When I was in school I hated Geology. I sucked at it and got a c-. However I was smart at other topics, including basketball. I went on to coach for a few years before I gave it up for a better paying job since I was getting married and needed the better pay. In three years my teams finished in 2nd, 2nd, and 1st place. I am very smart at coaching basketball and analyzing things and teaching basics. However, I am very dumb when it comes to Geology.....and Geomotry (sp?). I did fine in Calculus I and II, but Geomotry was my down fall.

Then there is that luck thing when it comes to school. My freshman year I took Psych 101 and had this terrible teacher. I flunked and had to take it over again. I got an A when I took it over again and the teacher kept asking me how I possibly flunked. I told her that it just seemed to make more sense when she explained things then the previous teacher. I also told her who I had and she said "Oh......he doesn't like athletes either."

Also CrazyWilly......don't judge how smart someone is by how they talk. Listen to Dennis Rodman sometime. Yet, he is actually very smart.

Willy,
I think your finding the few examples that are out there. I think a majority of winning teams (probably 99.9%) are smart. Particularly ones that have winning records 10 years in a row.

In my book,

10 years of winning records = Smart = " A quality program"

NIU = 4 straight winning records years, = "good program on the rise"

Rocketfootball, please don't remind us of our futility versus Toledo, it makes me sick. We're going to win one of these years and break the hex.

I keep saying the same thing about Toledo playing in Muncie, IN. against Ball State. Hasn't happened yet though. 03-banghead

Agreed, but being able to understand football doesn't make you smart.

Smart is actually a relative term, smart in relation to what? A team that wins is usually smarter than a team that doesn't, agreed. But a team that wins doesn't mean that they are smarter in the grand scheme of things.

You never say never and listen if it benefits you, but I think that at the very least the MAC should look at replacing the departed teams. If TCU leaves for the MWC as is predicted CUSA only gets worse. It appears it will implode before the MAC will.

The MAC should look at replacing the departed in my opinion. 2 good additions could really help secure more bowl bids that I think CUSA is bound to lose.

As for NIU, well we need to beat Toledo and BGSU on a consistent basis, that should be our goal at least for now. If the MAC gets more bowl bids then switching conferences may just be a mute point.

GO NIU!

Coaches and programs look smart, when they get the talent. NIU is starting to look "smart" in the past couple of years, because they actually started recruiting some. About 90 percent of the coaching staffs out there, look a hell of a lot smarter when they have the talent to relay their game plans. I guess I have a problem when someone says were smart because we have had ten winning seasons. Not a good choice of words. "Successful" sure, wouldn't say smart.

Amazing. 32 posts and counting on a topic that has ZERO factual basis. While I appreciate the fact that it is fun to fantasize about a new conference home for NIU, it is very doubtful to happen. NIU's administration has not been approached by anyone nor have they approached anybody else. THAT IS FACT.

If you really want something to talk about then talk about the 15,000 "rule." If truly enforced beginning next year, which I highly doubt, then everyone will get their wish for a new and improved conference home for NIU. The winners if the rule is enforced will be (my guess) NIU, Miami, Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan and Bowling Green (maybe). This remaining core will be very attractive. Either a new MAC gets formed to include this core and others (the remnants of CUSA? - hello Marshall again) or the whole or parts of this core market themselves to another conference.

Lets please deal in fact and not conjecture.

Instead of leaving the MAC how about trimming some fat such as Buffalo and Kent St. These are schools that have more potential in basketball than football. Just because there would less be schools, 4 bowl bids would still be possible based on strength of schedule. The only downside would be no conference championship, however it doesn't seem to affect the MWC.
