Looking for a morsel of positive. I was not at Sunday's game. For those of you who did attend what was your assessment of Michael McKinney and Paige Paulsen.

Rob Judson has become just plain erractic and goofy. You have to wonder if he is undergoing some problems off the court. There is no excuse for the sorry state of this team, even with marginal to little talent outside of Marcus Smallwood.

Is it time to start chanting for the Donald Whiteside era to begin?

Paige Paulsen is looking a little better as time goes by but I still am hesitant to say he will be a quality MAC player(one reason is as soon as I do, they end up sucking).

Paige Paulsen had a nice shooting touch hitting some pretty mid-range jump shots. Aside from that there were no positives in yesterday's game. I've never seen a college offense look so bad. Not sure if its the coaching or the players, but every pass is an adventure, and the spacing on the floor is non-existent. If I were Cary I'd start wondering about Rob. What is scary is the two best players we have on the court (PJ and Marcus) were both recruited by Brian Hammell.

I can't speak for Paige Paulsen or Ryan Paradise, but I can tell you Michael McKinney is a player. Ditto Cyrus Tate, Zach Pancratz and Frank Clair. Don't know much about Craig Reichel.

Judson had better hope these three freshmen hit the floor running next year. He also better hope that McKinney and Paulsen or Paradise contribute big time as well. As stated numerous times, my opinion of the rest of the cast of characters is not good. Most distressing is the fact that NONE of the current crop of sophmores is cut out for basketball at the MAC conference level. And James Hughes is looking more and more like an investment in a big man with athletic ability that isn't going to pay off.

Abysmal situation. Energy and excitement generated for the hoops program from last year's team coupled with the Convo Center coming on line has been completely, totally, 100% VAPORIZED.

niu just does not get it!!!!
I don't recall them announcing the attendance. It looked pretty sparse, maybe a little more than a weekday game. Very little student crowd.
3,152 with maybe 100 students plus the band/cheerleaders...

We get killed inside by big men with marginal talent. We cannot defend. We miss assignments on switches on D. We leave the lane and base line open a lot for easy layups. We looked confused on offense. Lazy passes. Poor passes. When Marcus gets double teamed which is everytime, he does not kick the ball back out fast enough and the rest of the guys stand around watching. We cannot get spacing on the floor. We cannot shoot. Well what else is there.

Street and Smith had Marcus Smallwood the pre-season MAC player of the year and PJ Smith as the best prospect from the MAC for the NBA!! Some pre-season hype is just too much. Do not underestimate the talent of the freshman class. All hard workers and all from outstanding programs with outstanding coaches. I don'tthink anybody expected to have true freshman contribute so much with so much [supposingly] talent returning. There is still time as it stll comes down to three days in March. Talent alone does not win games.
GO HUSKIES!!!!!

Yes, talent without good coaching will get you nowhere. Unfortunately, at this point, I don't think we have either. :crying:

The Street & Smith report is laughable. Proof positive that most of these basketball analysis and ranking services do little homework when it comes to a mid-major conference like the MAC. I bet nobody at the publication even saw Smallwood or Smith play once.

PJ Smith has had a very disappointing campaign. Without a better inside game or point guard play surrounding him he has been exposed big time. What has been most depressing in the couple of games I have witnessed is his lack of court leadership and movement off the ball. The last thing this team needs is another poor ball handler whose sole "talent" is chucking up jump shots or three pointers. That's exactly what Smith's game has devolved to this year.

This is something important to remember when evaluating Anthony Maestranzi. I too think he is a good kid, but the fact is he is way, way over his head being principal point guard for a team in the MAC. His severe limitations in the role of captain on the court have killed this team more than anything else.

I certainly am no expert but looking at the last four games Paulsen is averaging 7.5 ppg and 17 minutes, Smallwood is averaging 15.5 ppg and 29 minutes, PJ 17.5 ppg and 29 minutes while Peterson is averaging 8.5 ppg and 25 minutes. Paige sparked the run (although a short run!) at Ball State, and from a point production standpoint is one of the most efficient player on the court over the last four games with respect to ppg/minutes played. The point being, the kid can play.

Huskie Fans__I've gotten 3 reported posts from this thread in the last two days. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with any of them and the reports come from the posters themselves. Some of you newer posters should not hit the "Report this Post" link unless there is a problem with one of the posts--like someone starting to talk about the wonders of DeKalb corn or something equally disturbed.
Carry on!
And the Flashes are coming soon and we owe you one from last year!
