As someone who works for one of the larger departments in the state, I can tell you that it will be difficult for NIU to build anything in the next couple of years until the people of Illinois realize that there are two states under this current administration--The State of Illinois and the State of Chicago. Because NIU is not in Cook County, it will be very difficult to convince lawmakers in Springfield(Chicago) to budget for a football facility at a college other than Illinois-Champaign. It will have to be privately funded.

I say maybe to get the project rolling, sell the naming rights of all athletic facilities to corporate sponsors. How about the Culver's Convocation Center, Applebee Stadium (football), TCF field (baseball), and Sears Soccer field. The problem may be still not enough revenue, but how else will the money be raised if you take into consideration that alumni in general don't seem interested in donating for the facility. Until the MAC gets more than 2 bowls, you can't depend on the conference to bring in the revenue needed.

You folks have great passion for your university, but I think finally some of this has veered into AUP no-no land.
Rather than lock thethread or move it to the Smack Board, I've deleted the one post, even though it was edited, because it heads this thread in the wrong direction.

Man, has this board come to life!

Thanks Ax. Our boards certainly tend to be lively. However, it hasn't been uncommon for certain discussions to degenerate when passions get inflamed.

FYI-for all those unawares, the MACBBS boards have a posted code of conduct which enable the mods to delete certain posts and boot certain posters if they cross the line. Thats the AUP Ax is referring to..

Take a second to read it when you have a chance. I'm sure some of you may not like it, but it keeps these discussions much more civil than what we used to have on the old teamyates board.

I believe that U of Ill is starting to lay the groundwork and lobbying for a new basketball arena which will put any state funding for NIU FB facility further on the back burner than it already is (as if we had any chance).

Sorry Coach, but I'm not Smetko. As far as I know he hasn't found his way over to this board.

NIU79 was just using that as an example - when it occurred on teamyates, many were upset about the claims; NIU79 is simply calling for the same outrage towards NIU85alum's comments, and I agree.

I reported alum's post to the mods that referred to Apu. That appears to have been deleted. The mods will delete posts they deem to violate the Acceptible Use Policy. If persistent violations occur, they'll pull the plug on a poster.

The mods are here to keep it civil if we can't on our own. It's been very good so far since we've moved here, but I for one don't want to see all the personal attacks that occurred on the teamyates board (not blaming anyone for this - discussions get heated and things get said....or typed...). Even a message board can use a referee. :D

Back to the facilities, since we don't plan on having an indoor pratice space or anything like that, is there a plan for phase 2 that involves that?

I just would like to think that there is a plan for what we are trying to do, having one and letting people know it would set a lot of peoples minds at ease.
