NIU is going after a top 100 player next year. Bryan Mullins of Downers Grove South is projected to possibly be a top 100 recruit next year along with a dozen other illinois kids. I doubt we will get him but it is good to see NIU on his list. He would look great playing point guard for us in a few years. We can always dream.

NIU only has one scholarship to dole out next year so it will be incumbent on Rob Judson to aim high and hope. The biggest hole on a team with many holes is point guard. While I remain convinced Michael McKinney can play point adequately, it would be nice for Judson to decisively address this position and enable McKinney to contribute as a swingman.

Two more years of Anthony Maestranzi, Todd Peterson, Rome Sanders and the little heard from Bryan McKenzie. Three more years of James Hughes. Ugh. 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead

There is an very good article on some of the top junior basketball players in the state in Tribune today. I think we have a good shot at mullins because he has been offered by us and mostly our competitors. Other offers are Ball State, BG, Iillinois State, Wisconsin-Milwakee. I really hope we land him if he is projected as a top 100 prospect and we only have one scholarship to offer. Illinois has some other highly rated point guards next year. I think that point guard is the only position Judson should be looking at.

NIU doesn't have an available scholarship open. All four have been filled for next year.

I meant 2005. He will be a senior in high school next year. He is one of the top juniors this year and has been offered by NIU.

James Hughes is a freshman alum, you seem to forget that, and he has shown flashes of where he will be in the coming years.

You basically listed the whole team as players you hate, how does that make you a fan???

I know your new to being an NIU fan, but you have got to have hope, think the best for the freshman and the rest of the team.

I can't understand you, you cry when someone says something about rob lee or josh haldi, but its ok to rip on the WHOLE BASKETBALL TEAM?

Whatever Crazy Willy. Nobody attacked the personal qualities of anybody on the roster. What I did attack was the below grade basketball talent of some. I want nothing more than for James Hughes to be successful. Trouble is he is nothing more than an athletic big man with very limited court skills right now. Anthony Maestranzi and Todd Peterson are not equipped for the level of basketball played in the MAC. If the program didn't tell me so, I wouldn't even know that Bryan McKenzie is on the NIU roster. Jonathan Byrd was an awful and rash signing on the part of Rob Judson in the wake of Jamel Staten all of a sudden bolting town. Your a better basketball player than Walter Thompson. And Argo Al is Argo Al. PJ Smith either has a big injury nobody knows about or started smoking a hookah in the offseason because his entire game from last year is M.I.A.

There are exactly four players that I find intriguing on the current roster. Marcus Smallwood and the three freshmen. And I am intrigued by Michael McKinney, Paige Paulsen and Ryan Paradise only because I haven't seen much of them yet and feel obligated to give some credit to Rob Judson and his recruiting ability.

Is this OK for you Willy.

I don't understand him either, he always picks on Maestranzi, yet he doesn't say anything about his twin Paradise. I would expect Willy to leave him off but not Alum. As for Hughes, I totally agree. In 3 years he could be a very good player, heck at leaast he is MAC quality. He could even be an average player for us this year if Judson would just let him play instead of taking him out every 2 minutes(Wednesday's game is a good example of that)

Yes and my "personal attacks" were about the players football skills.

So its ok to rip basketball skills but not football skills?

If its ok for one its ok for the other, you can't protect one and protect the other, so no, your answer isn't ok. ITs garbage.

Crazy Willy and Apu (RobertN):

Didn't realize you guys were the founding members of the official Anthony Maestranzi Fan Club on campus. Where do I send my subscription fee to your quarterly newsletter? Does it come with a full length poster of Anthony shooting up a brick and coughing up a turnover?

Too much time for me on this site from my office today. I'm actually in dialogue with a whack job who doesn't attend class and a middle-aged student of middle eastern descent who doesn't know scatch about either the game of football or basketball.

Time for me to signoff.

Alum, I am not a part of the "Maestranzi fan club". I don't think he is great but I don't think he is as bad as you make him out to be. He is probably below average for a MAC team but so is Paradise his twin. Yet, you left him off your list.

I told you MANY times that I am NOT Middle Eastern. My dads sister(who is white European) married a Pakistani man. So the only way I am ME is that I stick up for them if they are attacked by prejudiced people(you?). Oh, and if I remember correctly, Apu is Indian(from India) and has a completely different religion(I could be wrong though, it has been a while since I have seen the Simpsons). Grow up Alum you are making yourself look like an ******.

Paradise looked bad early in the season, but I attribute that to nerves and getting used to the pace and intensity of the college game.
He seems a step quicker than AM to me, but I'm concerned he'll also get pushed around and bullied into turnovers by bigger guards like Maestranzi.

I think Maestranzi is a spunky kid and I'd like to see him do well at the point, but I'm afraid it just isn't going to happen. He's a role-player and he ought to be used that way. Unfortunately, he's the guy until the end of this season.

Next year, I think a starting lineup of

PG-Paradise
PF-Tate
C-Hughes
SG/Wing-McKinney
SF-Paulsen

Could be interesting....
