Is NIU a year in and year out Top 40 program. Just a general question which I am debating alot. I know NIU drafted good this year, but I've seen alot of draft critques of NIU not fully capitilizing on its season with the draft. Or is NIU going to be a once every 10 years top 40 team.

That is why I think this is a really important year for this program, even playing with a little less talent. A top 40 program can find ways to win and maintain itself even through these semi-transition years and be a conference contender. Very few preseason projections even mention NIU in the top 50 this year or even list any NIU players in the top 100. Personally I think the Beast is one of the top 5 LB's in the nation.

IMO, this season is possibly more important than last. If we do well, some of the naysayers will shut up. I think the general consensus of the majority of football fans is that we are a 1 hit wonder. A MAC championship should help put those thoughts to rest.

I hope we kick some serious @SS this year!!!!!!!!! Icing on the cake would be another dismal fighting illini season 04-rock

I didn't realize we had a 'draft'. I'm all for trading down and picking up more picks, so NIU did the right thing. LOL

Seriously I agree with the point made about this year being a big year, NIU needs to come out and prove that we have a football program, not just a team that was good.

If we fail this year, all outsiders will say we just rode The Burner's coat tail to success. We need to sustain this momentum. I think we will be good this year but better next year and beyond with our recent "drafted" classes :D

I'm not too worried if people say we're a one-hit wonder if we don't better on last year. It's a silly statement, really - how much farther up can Miami U get after last year? Does that mean they're a one-hit wonder?

3-8 wouldn't help our perception. Staying near the top of the MAC is where we need to remain.
