There is a link (broken) that was just added to the niuhuskies.com site for "student huskie club". I found this info about it from the Feb. 17 Athletic Board minutes.

"In an effort to turn students into donors while they are still at Northern, Athletics is launching the Student Huskie Club. This group is similar to the Dog Pound but it will get them into the habit of contributing financially to the University. The cost is $25.00 and it gets them a t-shirt, guarantees them ticket pick-up for football and basketball, and something new is parking for them on the east side of the Stadium in the donor lot."

The heck with the student huskie club, what about this item from the minutes......

Earl Hansen then asked about the status of the north bleachers. Cary stated that they will be removed this summer and the area leveled to take advantage of some corporate opportunities in that area. Athletics could also bring in portable bleachers, if necessary. Because of the end zone facility project, Athletics wants to protect that space. Cary then went on to give a brief summary of the end zone facility project. The plans are to build a 39,000 square foot facility in the north end zone. It will be funded through private gifts only. It is not in the public phase at this time but hope by late spring or early summer, it will be. There is currently $1.2 million committed to the project. Cary offered to have Tim Stedman attend the March meeting to provide a status report on the project.

Yes. Not only the progress on the facility, but we're FINALLY tearing down those damn bleachers in the north endzone!!!!! And they're considering temporary bleachers as well. Hmmmmm, were they reading this message board last year?

Let me guess. Wait a minute... Could it have been the immortal (darn!) Cybes, prognosticator of everything that has happened and will happen?

I wonder what they mean by corporate opportunities. Signs? Pavillions? Corporate seating? Will money generated go toward the alleged facility? Whatever goes there, I hope that it's tastefully done since we will be getting more national TV exposure this year.

I will believe any news about the facility when I see it on paper in front of my eyes. They are still waiting for the big donor. Is it now supposed to happen in spring or early summer? Maybe the new athletic director will come in with a wad of money! Don't hold your breath on the facility. If this ever becomes a reality and if they ever go public with it, donations from the public will not come in overnight.

It will probably be similar to what BG has. They had tents for alumni and some/lots of corp. tents just outside the stadium(in our case probably within).

How bout a Big ****** Culvers BillBoard behind the goal posts, with 2 games on ESPN this year you can bet someone would pay for that space.
