It may get to a point where we play all 11 games vs MAC schools and maybe one non com game when we play 12.

Eventually the big boys will have to break down and play teams like NIU in 2 for 1 deals as they won't have anybody else to schedule for their OOC games. The BCS schools won't want to play each other as that will make it harder for them to become "bowl eligible". Yes, we may get stuck with some unappealing home games but as long as some schools keep dropping their pants for the "name" programs they (BCS schools) will always have it their own way and never schedule away games against the likes of the MAC schools. Don't forget BCS schools can't play all I-AA schools in OOC either. Of course the non-BCS conferences will take a hit money wise. It will take a couple of years before this type of action will work due to deals already signed for future games but outside of not playing any OOC I-A home games or just playing conference teams for the whole schedule things will stay roughly the same.
I totally agree with you and have been saying this for a long time. We need the Mid-Majors to band together in a "union" type of organization. Schedule eachother and make it difficult for the BCS teams to schedule you. Unfortuately money talks and schools like ours cannot pass up a big pay day to play that road game.

I thought ESPN's talk of a Bowl Buster series would be a step in the right direction, but haven't heard much about it besides rumors on message boards. Hint to ESPN, this makes sense!

Check out these future schedules (they're not always up-to-date):

I don't buy the "teams are afraid of NIU" excuse. BCS teams would have been afraid of Marshall long ago and look at their future schedule.
I don't think they are scared to PLAY us but they are affraid to PLAY us at HOME(which is what we need-home games) AND they will LOSE money by playing us at home(because we can't afford a home schedule loaded with big name teams(even mid to low BCS teams) and there is no interest by C-DOA to play us. That REALLY cuts down our options.
Money is the key. If you want schools to come to town, you have to put up some cash for it to happen.

I'd like to know what Ohio U. has guaranteed VA Tech to come to town. Also, what did Marshall have to guarantee for Miami and Tennessee? (particularly Tennessee - Miami doesn't have huge attendance, so they may not lose money with a good guarantee).

I'm really surprised Tenn is coming to Marshall. A Vol home game with 107,000 has to generate 10-15 mill. I can see the 50,000 attd teams making a home and home. NU should come to our place, especially when we out draw them. Or Indiana.

Exactly. Even Kansas St, as good as they've been recently, doesn't get more than like 45K for their games (small stadium), so seeing them on the road is not really surprising.

Even Illinois should come to DeKalb, though we know that will never happen. Indiana is trying to act "big time", so getting a visit from them is not likely, no matter how silly that attitude is out of them. Minnesota is the only other Big Ten team I'd ever see making a visit - all the others have no financial need to do so.
