No sense trying to use logic with HD. He can not understand that the UN resolutions were to enforce the cease fire agreement that Saddam's general signed with General Schwartzkopf. Saddam had to prove that he destroyed the known stockpiles of WMD or face a resumption of hostilities. It was not a case of playing a game of catch if catch can with the inspectors.

<a href='http://www.usembassy.lv/EN/Iraq/defiance' target='_blank'>http://www.usembassy.lv/EN/Iraq/defiance</a>

<a href='http://www.un.org/documents/scres.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.un.org/documents/scres.htm</a>

HD really should read the facts at the above sites and it is not worth wasting time on him. Nothing we can say will change his hateful mind.

So I will just say - 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years!

North Korea? Oh wait, they actually ARE a direct threat and have no oil. No wonder Bush forgot to invade them.

No, JDK - YOU don't get it. We went against the UN's wishes in order to enforce the UN's resolutions. It's the definition of irony to tell the UN to shove it as we go and enforce THEIR resolutions. It's the definition of irony to act as the UN's policedogs, but when they want to take a look at our elections we tell them to stick it and stay the hell out of our politics.

The deal is... I don't have to argue. What I believe in is taking place at this moment!
What you believe in is not...

I tried to stay out of the fray... but the US can not base it's invasion on the fact that Iraq vialoted some UN resolutions. Certainly as stated above, the UN weapons inspectors in Iraq concluded there were no WMD.

Is Sadam a bad man? Yes. Is the world a better place without him? Yes. But at what cost? Let's not forget it was Reagan and VP Bush that gave him the technology, funding, etc.

It is interesting to note that during the period between 1967 and 2000, Iraq was the subject of 69 Security Council resolutions. By comparison, Israel has been the subject of more than 138 resolutions. To date Israel is still in violation of most of these resolutions. Iraq, as we came to find out complied.

Whats good for one is good for another. The US must be consistant in their policies.

As far as the US....

It is time that the silent majority, political moderates, find a voice. For too long a minority of very vocal religious conservatives have controlled the debates and the politics of the reublican party and our nation.

I am tired of religios conservative labling all democrats "bleeding heart liberals"

All republicans are not on the religious right, in fact most are not. Same goes for democrats.

Stepping down for the soapbox now.

To those of you who lean left...
Iraq aside, would you be kind enough to share two or three bullet points as to why you are threatened by conservative philosophy?
I'm not really talking Republican vs Democrat here.

Watch, one of them will want to fist fight soon... that's usually the response they eventually come to.

Gun Control: No where does the constitution gurantee the rights of individuals to have handguns. The second ammendment reads: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Floating Values: Conservatives believe less government is better until they need more government to fulfil their agenda.

Energy: Are you aware the 50% of Brazil's automobile fuel is ethanol. We could eliminate imported oil inside of 5 years if we wanted. No need to drill more, lets get our fuel from our own backyards.

Environment: At some point we need to thing more about the future.

I do agree somewhat with the privatization of social security.

Taxes should not have been lowered until our debt was repayed.

When all is said and done we have less spending money now than before the tax cuts. Bush's policies have directly affected fuel costs which have more that outweighed and tax cut. (somewhat Iraq related).

I could go on...

Is John McCain considered left? I tended to agree with what he said when he was running for the Repub nomination. I would have voted for him. I didn't agree with what Bush does on many of the issues. So I guess Bush is too far right. In my case, I like the environment, and I prefer a president that doesn't always take the side of big business - he doesn't appear to consider the environment enough - good for jobs at the moment, but possibly short-sighted. Gun control I have less interest in, but just want reasonable controls. Also, I don't think it's really a viable situation when a few people control a large percentage of the resources, so I don't think laissez-faire economics is always the best way to go. That's more a comment on general government economic policy than on Bush in particular. I look at things on a case by case basis though, I don't want to make too many generalizations.
