Team reports Aug 7 and first practice is Aub 8. They might be practicing at night the first week.

Can't wait! Then in about 3 weeks we will find out that coach Novak thinks that Dan Nicholson gets the nod to start at QB for the season to keep defenses honest.

You don't think that coach is going to go with Horvath, do you? :eek:

Yes!

Horvath = Experience

Nicholson & Davis = Talented Projects.

We don't need to be spending our days developing QB's. We have a conference championship to win and that will be tough with a red-shirt frosh for a QB, unless his name was Peyton Manning or someone of that stature.

While I won't be crushed by coach Novak's decision if it is Horvath, but you always hope that the guy who gives you the best chance to win is under center. Even if we lose to Michigan and NU, we can still get to the MACC by running the table after these opening games while the new starter gains game experience in non-conference games. I would look at the early part of the season as a chance to work on the projects. We all want to win, and perhaps we have differing viewpoints on why their candidate would be the best selection.

Phil Horvath - experienced and able to start right away
Britt Davis - able to run and stretch the defense by scrambling for first downs.
Dan Nicholson - Best arm of the group, but does not have the experience or scrambling ability.

May the best man win.

If you are saying horvath is a finished product...I'd say put him back in cause he isn't done yet! 03-lol

Horvath = Project
Davis = Project
Nicholson = Project

To say horvath is any further along than those kids is a hard thing for me to accept...More INTs than TDs on the field. I begin to wonder what we are basing horvath being better on?

I understand some coaches don't base things off on the field preformances, but that school of thought is just one I have a hard time understanding.

How about actual game experience and two more years on the team learning the offense? Does that equal further along? I think you are trying to make an argument to fit your dislike for Phil.

Who said Horvath is a finished product?

Anyone know the rules of the public being able to watch these practices or if its allowed at all ? Maybe some of us could actually watch the QB's go at it instead of just making assumptions Phil Horvath is an intelligent decision maker or Nicholson has a cannon that Britt and Phil can't compete with.

That would be great to see these kids live for ourselves. Coaches might be a little sensitive to something like fans viewing the players.

Most practices are open to the public. I've never gone to a practice and told I couldn't watch. They got some decent (compared to prior years) crowds last year for Saturday practices. I'm sure there will be even more this year as interest in the program continues to grow.

This is an excellent excuse to get out there for a Saturday practice. Thanks for the update.
