It's a combination of a lot of things.

#1 People never appreciated Ryan Cubit's talent and handle on the game. Many will realize that how good Ryan was come fall.

#2 Hiller never had anyone to compete with. Clark is 4th on the depth chart. The drop off in talent after Hiller was significant, and it helped to make him look that much better.

#3 Hiller had some great targets to throw to. 20 TD's yes, but when you've got GJ beating defenders by 3 steps it makes it easier.

#4 Hiller is still a bit rusty. Let's talk in October when I believe he'll be rounding into form.

I think Hiller will emerge as the starter, but more importantly, we're solid at QB, and arent dependent on a 100% health for the entire year.

As always you are the most informed poster.

The other thing is RC threw lasers. Look at our 4th quarter comebacks throughout the year. Even the games we lost Ohio, a dart that was not caught for the game winner; FSU td called back for the tie; Cincy drops at the end that would've given a manageable fg (not to mention an int for a td that mishandled) He had guys blanketed and nailed them, fortunately Tim didn't have that w/the 06 wideouts. I'm sure he will get it done or at least one of them will.

Well, thanks for the compliment. I dont see myself as well informed. Simply an opinion. Everyone's got one ya know. I feel a lot more knowledgable talking basketball. I played a lot, coached some., and am an avid observer at many levels. Football..........Just another casual observer.

I think RC is a victim of circumstances. He went to Rutgers to play for dad. Rutgers was gawd awful at the time, and played a number of very talented programs. Individually he did very well as a freshmen against the likes of VaTech, Miami, and Boston College. He was originally offered by Clemson. If he goes to Clemson his legacy is likely different. Then he comes here, and gets in on the tailend of a programs complete collapse. Not a great way to start your career..............a puke Rutgers team, and a bottom of the barrel WMU team. Finally the kid gets a decent team and he is lost for the season. So in many peoples minds, Ryan Cubit is a dismal failure. When he finally gets a full season he does very well, but still, the cloud of those early years (most of which had nothiing to do with his performance) makes people scrutinize his every mistake. Where Brett Farve gets a free pass for making 4 interceptions in a game, Ryan Cubit gets criticized for throwing a wobbly TD strike..........."Yeah sure it was a TD, but it wasnt a very good pass, might have been picked off!"

What always boggled my mind, was that Ryan Cubit was the highest ranked high school QB Western has ever had. How many WMU QB's have we had that had offers from multiple BCS schools, but chose us???? Try 1...............Ryan Cubit.

Was in the John Gill Stadium Club for the Gary Fund Honorary Coaches' Club reception before the game, and Bill talked about three times as long as usual. I get the impression he's really enthusiastic about the potential for this team.

He wasn't very happy with any of the QBs during the game. They all made some plays but lacked consistency. Hiller probably best. I get the feeling either he isn't 100% rehabbed yet or lost something (s) due to the injury.
