Bronco Men's Tennis signs two State Champions - MileHighBronco - 04-11-2007 05:43 PM

Our already strong team appears to just get stronger. 04-rock

Quote:Calderone is playing No. 1 singles for Lumen Christi this spring. Last season in the same flight he lost just one match on his way to winning the conference, regional and state title in Division 4.

Last year's Division 2 winner, Casey Cullen of Birmingham Seaholm, will also join the team and Calderone said they'll likely room together.

Yup. The rich get richer and this time, I love it!!

The men's and women's tennis team need some credit. They are kicking some major butt.

Just saw an interesting set of facts about our 63rd ranked women's team, which has won 23 straight MAC matches and faces BG on Saturday.

The Broncos (16-6, 5-0) have won 6 straight matches and have never lost to Bowling Green, compiling a 30 - 0 record in the all-time series. BGSU has not recorded a point vs. Western since a 6-1 loss in the 2000-01 season. The Falcons lost to the Broncos by 5-4 scores in both 1981-82 and 1997-98.

Pretty impressive, don't you think?

Excuse my ignorance please, but I have always heard that K College has a strong tennis program. Are they on the same level of NCAA competition as WMU or are they below us? How do our facilities compare. I know that we recently replaced our courts.

K College competes at the Div. III nonscholarship level. We play them every year in an exhibition and I believe we've never lost to them. K College is great in their Division but can't compete at the Division I level.

I'd imagine that WMU plays at a higher level, but I'm not sure.

Check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalamazoo_College#Athletics Wrote:Kalamazoo College competes in the NCAA's Division III and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Kalamazoo College boasts an incredible conference win streak in men's tennis. As of 2004-2005, the Hornet tennis squad have won their conference championship an astounding 68 years in a row.

That's an unbelievable record.

Hmm so they are to tennis what Grand Valley is to football. Our vocal local inferior that dominates a lower division to great fanfare.

- GRPunk - 04-12-2007 04:35 PM

I'm sure hosting the Boys U-18 national tournament doesn't hurt either of the Kalamazoo tennis teams in their recruiting efforts either.

- floridabronco - 04-12-2007 05:45 PM

The trophy Western and K College play for is called the Wagner Cup. Western has never lost it.

There is the answer to the question right there.

Our 50th ranked men's team faces their biggest match of the season this weekend when they play at Ball State.

Last season, BSU won the MAC regular season title (on a disputed call, if I remember right) by downing WMU 4-3 in a match played at Notre Dame. The Broncos won the MAC tournament and the right to advance to the NCAA's.

Both teams are undefeated in MAC play right now.

Go Broncos!! Beat them Cards.

- thegeneral - 04-15-2007 09:45 PM

Men's tennis beats Ball State on the road 5-2 for their first win at BSU since '82.

I believe that WMU has clinched a share of the MAC title with one meet (?) left in the regular season.

The women also defeated BGSU to remain unbeaten in MAC play.

Great weekend for our tennis teams. Way to go Broncos!!
