Hello. I made the trip out to Denver last week. Just wanted to share a couple of observations with whoever might read this.

First You all have a beautiful campus. The mountains make for a spectacular backdrop. Was your arena formerly a chapel? Because that looks like a steeple on top.

Second, I am baffled by your fan support. You are defending the 4th longest home win streak against the best team in the conference and you can't even sell half of the (fairly small) arena? I bought a Denver Post for the write up and had to turn to page 8 to find it. I passed an ad for DU LaCrosse to get to it. I am really suprised that a town the size of Denver does not have more support for your team.

Congrats to Denver for being ranked 58th in the Sears Cup. This is 2x higher than any other Sun Belt school and is second among all DI schools without football. I am hoping that this strong showing will get us into one of the stronger non-football conferences like either the Missouri Valley or West Coast Athletic. Our men's basketball is building and I feel if Terry Carrol does not get us into the NCAA or NIT this year we need to bring in a big name coach looking for a second chance like: Jim O'Brien, Nolan Richardson, Mike Jarvis, Matt Dourghty. It is just a matter of time till DU Men's basketball will be like St. Joseph's or Gonzaga. We have a beautifil campus with great facilities in a great city, so now we need to win more and then we can become one of the stronger mid majors.

Denver will probably leave the Sun Belt after the 2004-2005 school year and end up in whatever conference will take us. Probably something like Mid Continent or Horizon. I do not think that this is a good move for DU but maybe the only one available today.

Here is what I would do to make sure our stay in wherever we end us is a short one unless we get luckey and get into either WCC (Gonzaga, Pepperdine, etc.) or Missouri Valley (Bradley, Creighton, Drake, etc). HIRE A BIG NAME PROVEN WINNER AS THE MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH AND GIVE HIME WHAT HE NEEDS TO BUILD A WINNER IN 4-5 YEARS. Here is a list of some of the type coaches I am talking about. All of them have contacts for recruiting and junior college or DI transfers will want to play for them. Georgia State did the same thing by hiring Lefty Driesel and he got them into the Big Dance in a couple of years and no about 5 years latter they are moving to the Colonial Athletic Conference from the lowely Atlantic Sun. Here is my list of coaches available for DU, if they are willing to pay them and give them the neccessary time to make it happen: Mike Jarvis(George Washington and St Johns), Nolan Richardson (Arkansas), Matt Doughty (Notre Dame, UNC), Jim Harrick (Peoperdine, Rhode Island and Georgia - probably don't want to risk the mess he brings with him), Cliff Elis (Auburn), Perry Clark (Tulane, Miami), John Thompson Sr. (Georgetown), Rick Majuris (Utah) and Charlie Spoonhour (UNLV).

Let's take the steps that we need to move up to a conference where we want to be not just the only one that will take us.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all for Denver to stay in the SBC in basketball. You have been a good competitor.
