OT: Suggestions on AVCHD editing software?
I recently bought my first camcorder (a Canon HFS10), which records in high definition. I haven't yet uploaded any of the video to my computer (a 2007 MacBook Pro) for editing purposes because I am aware that I need to have certain software on my computer that can recognize and edit the footage. The camcorder had some Pixela-brand software bundled with it, but the Internet tells me that that bundled software is crap.

I know that Final Cut Express is available for Mac users. I'm curious as to other options that people here might know about and like? I also have a PC, so the suggestions need not be Mac compatible.

Whatever insights anyone might have in this arena for this clueless former academ would be very much appreciated!

Have you played with iMovie at all? It's part of the iLife suite (which comes bundled with newer macs but can also be bought for about $80 for single site license or $100 for 5-license family pack).

Nevermind... I didn't realize it converted AVCHD down to AIC.

RE: OT: Suggestions on AVCHD editing software?
I did some research when I got a Panasonic ZS3 camera before last Christmas that had AVCHDlite, but don't remember too much about what I found. It wasn't promising. I wound up going with the built in MPEG approach instead for recording movies. That may not be as much of an option on your handicam, though.

One thing I do recall is that supposedly Vista has much better support, at least for playback of AVCHD recordings on the PC.

This page recommended a couple of different editing packages, but I haven't used either: http://www.jakeludington.com/camcorder/2...rders.html . I use Roxio Easy Media Creator for my video editing on a PC (again, non AVCHD).
