Bayou Bucket report
The Bayou Bucket lunch today was interesting for several reasons. First, it was almost a love fest between the two coaches since they are obviously good friends. I am very impressed with Kevin Sumlin--he looks like a perfect fit for UH and his 'nice' demeanor/personality is similar to Bailiff's. Second, the venue, House of Blues, was rather surreal, especially when dessert was served after the event was over and those who hung around for some socializing were served a very good chocolate mousse cake. Third, Mack Rhoades, the new UH AD, is also impressive and much more personble than Maggard. Again, he looks like a good fit. Finally, David Sayler, Rice's interim AD, did a very good job during his talk. He had some funny anecdotes and he appeared very relaxed and spoke well. An interesting aspect of Rhoades' talk was his comment to the effect that while most schools like to look outside for a new AD, sometimes the best candidate is right under the nose of the administration. He acknowledged that he and Sayler were friends before he came to UH and he thinks David would be a very able AD for Rice.
