NIU Vigil for Ft. Hood 6:30 TONIGHT
The following is an NIU Official Message:

Candlelight Vigil Tonight

The Huskie Disaster Relief Program and Huskies United will hold a candlelight vigil tonight in honor of the victims of the Fort Hood shooting. The vigil will begin at 6:30 pm in the MLK Commons. The Rev. Diane Dardon of Lutheran Campus Ministries will make remarks, and there will be a moment of silence to reflect on those lost in the recent tragedy.

"We would like to invite anyone from NIU and the surrounding community to join in solidarity to show our support and strength to those who desperately need it at this time," says Scott Hudek, president of Huskie Disaster Relief Program.

Immediately following the vigil there will be a memorial ceremony in the Regency Room of the Holmes Student Center by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, featuring the Movable Memorial Wall to honor Illnois' fallen soldiers.

How come we didn't have a Vigil for the UCONN football player that got stabbed to death? We can travel to UCA for a gang shooting, but we can't do anything for the poor guy who randomly gets stabbed?

I thought it, you said it.

NIU students were a little too eager to return the kind favors we received from Va Tech. That's why everyone rushed to UCA for a drive by.

Putting all that aside, a vigil is a nice gesture. A classy move.

There is so much crazy sh!t going on right now, it is going to be necessary to schedule a vigil every weekend soon. Orlando office shooting, cleveland rapist/murderer, california gang rape...

Oh it's definatley a classy move, and there's never a bad time for a vigil. I just don't want us to ignore every other act of senseless violence because we had a school shooting here.

I don't think we ever ignore them, just some of them impact people differently.

Personally I felt very connected to this one, and very connected with the UCA one .. I guess that is where the inspiration comes from for me. It wouldn't be feasible to have a vigil for every act of violence, as sadly as that is.

I don't know if you guys realised, but VT has had 2 more serious acts of violence since the April 16 incident. There is probably school violence at least once a week, most people don't hear about them. :(

Oh wow, that is messed up. Just found one of them. WTF is wrong with people out there? I am surprised I did not hear about this.
