Meet the Bruins - Newcomers
- Scott Saunders – the guy is big and more athletic than I thought…very strong and good around the rim…excellent FT shooter (it is obvious and Byrd commented on it too)…disruptive when he’s on defense…definite starter and a top 3 center in the league at least…didn’t get to see short jumpers much, but very capable around the rim…solid rebounder…best center we’ve had since the Sonn/Mark days. HE’S ONLY A SOPH TOO!! This guy could turn into a real beast
- Ian Clark – lefty…looks to have a pretty complete game with a good looking long shot (didn’t make any threes but one went way deep in the bucket and spun out…hopefully that doesn’t indicate poor rotation on his shot)…not afraid of the mid-range game and looks comfortable at it…hit a couple of floaters and finished around the rim…definite starter and potential star for us down the road, but I do want to check out his quickness a bit.
- Kerron Johnson – he’ll be good too…very aggressive penetrator and Byrd says he’s a tremendous FT shooter (hit all of them that I remember)…Byrd says he’ll be at the line a bunch this year which to me indicates his levels of playing time and coaching confidence…hit a nice pull-up three…quick, but not what I’d call elite quickness, not Renfroe fast…solidly built
- Trevor Noack – much more sturdy than I had anticipated and confident inside…willing to shoot the three, but can’t tell yet if that’s warranted…probably won’t get minutes above Hedgepeth…his playing time will depend upon how much time Belcher sees at the 3 vs. the 4…can contribute in a Hedgepeth last year type of role
- Brandon Baker – tough time shooting the ball and several hustle plays…hard to see him in the mix for really, really significant playing time from the short time I watched, but it was only a snapshot so who knows (who knows on any of this analysis really since I don’t see them day-in and day-out)…good size though
- Blake Jenkins – if anyone looks the part, it is Blake…long, rangy, athletic, and strong enough for a freshman…seemed to handle the ball well enough, but still seemed to be searching for his role..handled it quite a bit on the outside and got some rebounds…if his skill set is equal to the way he looks, he could be a significant contributor one day

RE: Meet the Bruins - Newcomers
Also agree again, pretty much sums it up. This team won't be the 3 pt shooting team of the past. This team will shoot many more free throws and have a higher overall shooting %. Didn't see the other walkon last night. Travis Williams or something I think? Doesn't matter much, just curious.
I think Kerron has a bit better quickness than we saw last night. As he develops and learns the system it will show up more. That was a nice quick three off a curl cut though. He didn't always seem as focused on defense and it felt like he needed to move his feet more. I'm griping about a 3 week old freshman I realize.
Ian Clark is the real deal. Can score from anywhere. Seemed involved defensively as much as you can be in a 20 min scrimmage.
Noack I could see redshirting. Will contribute a lot in the future, but minutes will be tough this year if he plays.
Jenkins, same kind of scenario. At least one of these guys will redshirt.
It's a real shame we didn't have Campbell last year. We'll be left to wonder. Welcome back though. Looks a bit lighter and a step quicker than I remembered.
At least last night, Hanlen looked much more comfortable at point. Didn't feel as out of control with the ball, knocked down a few shots.
It's going to be a rough start since the season is only a week away. But this is in fact a deep team. There are quality players at every position.
Projected starting lineup subject to change most nights:
1. Hanlen
2. Clark
3. Campbell
4. Belcher
5. Saunders, could start Hedgepeth out of respect for his improvement but either way both will play extensively and maybe even together.
