All:

Please cut the demeaning insults that are riddled with foul language or insinuations of foul language.

Calling people morons, using variations of f*ck, and generally just being a jerk do not contribute to an environment of discussion. This seems less and less like the 'spin room' and more and more like the 'angry yell and people who disagree with me room'.

Some are genuinely morons. This is like telling us we can't say the shooter is a Muslim.

So your response to me specifically saying that calling people morons is inappropriate, you decide to issue a blanket statement calling 'some people' morons? Do you really not see the problem with that?

Yeah, except it is nothing like that.

No.

It's exactly like that.

If your going to crack down on the language and name calling, that's your right. It's not a problem for me. Some people on here call EVERYONE morons. That's simply not true. It losses it meaning if your going to call all morons. But as I said, some are. I try to not incorrectly label people even if I disagree with them, but if someone is a moron, Muslim, midget, saint, soldier, moderator or plumber, it's what they be. You find it inappropriate to call someone a moron? I will tend to agree when it's not true. But when it is true, then it fits. And we have a few on here. Some will point out that I am.

I thought we just had a topic on this and maybe I came away from that one completely misunderstanding, but I thought you were going to continue, as you always have, to more or less allow the board to continue on what ever path it when down, as long as all attempted to control themselves and not escalate the little battles. I may be missing a few topics, but I thought, with the exception of one or two, that everyone on here had made a hugh change. I have been seeing far less name calling and such. It's hasn't disappeared, but it's seen a reduction. Most of my insults were reserved for Robert, and following our last topic on this subject, me and several others have put him on ignore. Except for his end of the conversation, that has cut down one hell of a lot on the name calling all by itself.

Back to your topic, I hear you. And when you remind me, I try. 04-cheers

RE: Language
Yes, we did have a topic on this, and I did say that I would allow the path to continue. But the recent shooting at Fort Hood has brought out a lot of anger. That anger has been directed at the shooter and the shooter's belief system. But it also has manifested itself in attacks on other posters of this board. My complaint is not against saying that the shooter is a muslim or even against the islamic religion, it is the personal attacks against other posters that lead to nothing except more personal attacks. Can you think of a bigger waste of electrons? (Won't somebody think of the copper?)

A complaint was filed against one user and after viewing the thread, it wasn't just that one user who was using name calling and foul language against other posters. I'm not cracking down on this. I sent two PMs to the biggest offenders, and then posted this topic. It is a request for civility. I'm not banning, I'm not warning, and I'm not taking it any further than this notice. Occasionally, as you said, people need a reminder.

You want to call people morons because that is what they are? If someone genuinely is a moron do you call them that in real life to their face? Probably not. It is meant as an insult and nothing further. If you do approach mentally handicapped people and call them morons to their face, and then actually believe that the person sitting at the other keyboard is actually mentally handicapped, I apologize.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frankly I find it despicable that both sides are already lining up and using this incident to
a) blame islam.
b) blame the military.
c) blame Bush.
d) attack Obama.
e) make light of the death of innocents.
f) blame gun control.

I feel that this stems from the wanton use of insults. Most of these are reactions from emotion, not from reason. Insults lead to further emotional responses and more insults. It's a vicious cycle.

As with most incidents like this it will be quite some time before the truth of the incident comes out and we start to realize everything that was going through the mind of the shooter, or even details of the time-line of the incident. Yesterday, we thought the shooter was dead for a few hours before it was realized that he was still alive. How can we begin to make judgments about who is to blame? But here we have people already jumping on this trying to make political hay. Disgusting.

Back the horses up! I don't disparage the handicapped at all! I don't call them morons, retards, or anything else. I'm in 100% agreement with you on this. It's disgusting and wrong on a major level. I call people who otherwise appear completely sane but hold crazy, outlandish, insane opinions morons, idiots, dumbasses or a-holes. And yes, it's disparaging and an insult, and that's how I intend it. And yes, that's according to me, using my definition. Like I said above, some consider me a moron.

And I do it face to face in life. I was far nicer when I was younger, but the older I get, the more "cantankerous" I become. I don't have the patience with "morons" that I once had.

Again, I don't use such terms in their strictest definitions, but if people here are taking them that way, I can be more careful in my choice of words. Maybe language such as bug nuts or rhino clit.

They say we shouldn't discuss religion and politics in mixed company yet here we do both. Things get heated and words get typed. It's not like anyone here is going to hunt someone down and shoot them. As far as I can tell everyone here is an adult and is here voluntarily.

I think the point is that this is a community the owners/admins would like to see thrive and even grow. I assume that what they'd like to avoid is the kind of behavior that would cause good contributors to go away, or potential new contributors to decide against it. I think the former has happened already.
