If we played UTK every year in football, would we play in Knoxville every season or would Kiffin want to come to Memphis every 3-4 years for recruiting reasons?

This might be the smartest thing he's ever said since donning the orange and white. Memphis is a recruiting hotbed for all three major sports. Im sure he would like to convince some of these kids that Knoxville is a better place than Memphis, Oxpatch, Tuscaloosa, and even Fayetteville. This makes perfect sense. And besides, theyre 20-1 alltime vs Memphis.

Why would we do that? Home and home with a game in Nashville every 3 years.

We'd be fools not to do a home-home deal with Tennessee in football. Our football program is starving for lack of attention and money. Show me another big time BCS school that will give us an extended home-home deal.

The best way to play UT every year is for them to get us into their conference.

Otherwise, they are just part of the OOC schedule like everyone else.

You're joking right? No way that Tennessee is just like UT Martin or even Arkansas State. Neither of those games gets us on national TV and neither of those games allows us to sell 45,000 to 50,000 $50 tickets.

RE: Lane Kiffin wants to play Memphis every year.
It would be good for us if we could play them every year. Why do you think we played all those games against Mississippi during the 60s and70s. It was because coach Vault and coach Murphy were close friends and Mississippi was doing Memphis State a favor by playing us. I remember the hugh crowds, the excitement and in time we won. I would think that UT would want to come to Memphis and play every other year, They did before and even played other schools here. I remember seeing UT/ UCLA in a classic at the liberty bowl many years ago. UT college of medicine is here by the way. The stadium would fill and I would think that we could use the money. Our playing UT is a definite winner for us , especially if the game is home and home. It would create a lot of interest across the state as it has in the past and exposes us to other recruits who may not go to UT. I hope it works out. And as far as it hurting our recruiting against UT we are not recruiting against them anyway it seems and who knows it might help. remember anytime a major school plays in our stadium it is good for our program

And as I understand it, the MSU deal is not an extended, long-term deal like the Memphis-Tennessee series has been of late.

I totally agree with tigercity. we may hate the orange. But, who wont admit that they are a top 10 program?
what other top 10 programs are ready to sign home and home deals with us?

It would be nice but I have a hard time believing they would ever enter into a contract calling for home and home with the games being played every single year. They have NEVER done that with us. It has always been a hit and miss series with them hiding when it suited them.

No need to woory, as of this year ALL of the SEC's games are on national TV so it is a big plus. This series is the biggest no brainer that I've ever seen actually 'debated' on this board.

Isn't that sort of like asking why should I make home repairs because no single repair will prevent the house from eventually falling down? Playing a teamm like Tennessee 21 total times isn't the only and single answer to all of the Memphis football program's problems. But actively avoiding those games and that exposure and that money would certainly be just one more piece of the problem if we were to do it.

We could make as much or more money with one buy game a year.
Those games could be in other parts of the country and would actually give us some exposure. No one outside of Tennessee is going to watch us playing UT in football.

The only gain from the "exposure" is to UTK who gets to shore up its West Tennessee fanbase by playing here. How is that good for us? If they want to watch UTK, they can drive east.

We have more to gain in terms of money and exposure with a good buy game than we do playing UTK every year. Trying to make that money up by hosting another school's party in our stadium is not only bad business, but shows a total lack of respect for your own school.

If you want to see UTK play, go to Knoxville. This is Memphis. We don't need UTK to survive.

So, it's good to experience a total beatdown just about every time we play them? It's good for them to come to Memphis and put 35,000 to 40,000 Orange people in our stadium? I guess we need the money, but it is embarrassing when they fill our stadium and then whip our ass like they did in 2006.

Does this include wearing the home orange? Might as well since it usually is a home game for them anyway....

As much as I hate to admit it, I think UT made the right choice regardless of his tendency to shoot off at the mouth. Even that makes sense for UT....

Sure wish we made a choice and even wish more it would be the right one. I still say hire T. Bowden and tell him to bring Pops for a consultant. Couldn't hurt to have Bobby wearing the Memphis colors for a little while.... My bad, different thread and different discussion.

The home game is nice for revenue purposes. Playing Wyoming at home might be is a tougher draw for UT at the moment.

Probably the only true statement in your enter post is at the end. The rest of it doesn't make any sense to be honest and can't be supported. Please list those 'buy games' that you claim will give Memphis more money and more exposure than playing a team like Tennessee.

RE: Lane Kiffin wants to play Memphis every year.
Bring it! I say drop Ole Miss and keep UT. I wish we could play all of the games in the Vile so I can have a nice little fall trip every year. That keeps the evil West Tn. Tennessee fans away from me, and the ones in the East are kind of like the Good Witch of the East, very hospitable.

Eventually, we WILL beat them on the hill.

Why would we do that? Home and home with a game in Nashville every 3 years.

that doesn't make sense. Why split a gate with them in Nashville when they will clearly have 70-80% of the fans in attendance? Seems we would lose money in that scenario. Home and home is the way to go.

At least when UT plays us in Memphis we would get the whole gate.

So, it's good to experience a total beatdown just about every time we play them? It's good for them to come to Memphis and put 35,000 to 40,000 Orange people in our stadium? I guess we need the money, but it is embarrassing when they fill our stadium and then whip our ass like they did in 2006.

You know what's even more embarrassing? Putting 4100 in the stands on national TV. Even more embarrassing than the millions we lose every year.

Do it! I don't care if they hand us a butt whooping every year. We need the money from that game. Plain and simple.

Should play us every year in the bowl. They'd could use their bye game as a road win and it would help them with recruiting in this area. Would also allow their West Tn. fans to see them each year without driving across the state.

Good idea by Kiffin for his Vols. Horrible idea for us.

If we have a top 25 team willing to play us home and home and we do not jump on it we are morons purse and simple..

Take your proposition to ECU, Marshall, UAB, UCF, Tulane, Arkansas State, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, or even the powerhouse MTSU ... a home and home with the top 25 program in their state and see how fast they jump on it or how fast they would ridicule the stupid azz idea of dropping the series if underway ...

Our fans need to get over our inferiority complex.

The way to keep utk fans out of our stadium is to sell enough season tickets to Tiger fans, not to cower in fear of utk ...(see basketball 200-300 utk fans at each game)

"The Earth is a somewhat pear shaped ellipsoid, with a slightly larger southern hemisphere than northern hemisphere."

And yes, we should play the Vols as much as possible if they offer us a home and away.

Ive yet to hear a logical reason on this board of why we shouldnt play UTK every year...its been ongoing for five years now for me. Those of you who think its a bad idea are simply drinking too much of the blue kool aid or just cant simply think outside of the box.

When that happens, UTK will no longer want to play us here.
