John Calipari and the Memphis Tigers, You Can't Fool Me
Quote:Memphis men’s basketball coach John Calipari is a scrub. Mark my words: The Tigers will NOT win a championship with Calipari at the helm.

It irritates me that this guy collects so much praise. He was the Naismith College Coach of the Year last season, and Sports Illustrated named this obnoxious coach the College Basketball Coach of the Year this season. WHY?

I understand last year’s Memphis squad set an NCAA D-I record for most W’s in a season (38), but this impressive number of victories is not a result of Calipari’s coaching.

THE REST OF THIS DOUCHE BAGS STORY

Referring to this as an "article" is entirely too generous. It would likely be left on the editing floor of most high school newspapers. I had to double check the link after reading it to make sure I wasn't reading a 13-year old kid's blog.

Welcome to the information age where anyone with a keyboard is suddenly a journalist.

It's obvious where the guy got his name: from his knuckles dragging the ground. What's not so obvious is which opposing coach wrote this.

I'm not convinced it was a sincerely written piece.

I mean I tend to agree with some of the comments that followed that it was written to raise the ire of Memphis fans and defend Coach Calipari as to WHY he is a GOOD COACH.

RE: John Calipari and the Memphis Tigers, You Can't Fool Me
BOB,

ARE YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT, ONLY SCHOOLS FROM THE BIG SIX SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY COLLEGE BASKETBALL. IT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE THAT CAL EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING TAKE THIS, THIS, OMG I CANT EVEN SAY IT I THINK... MID MAJOR TO PLAY ON THE SAME COURT AS DUKE, UNC, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, UCONN, PITT, LOUISVILLE... HAVE I GOTTEN TO YOUR TEAM YET???? IF I HAVENT DONT WORRY THE TIGERS WILL GET THERE SOON ENOUGH AND YOU CAN LOOSE ANOTHER "G" BECAUSE YOU BET AGAINST THEM.

ASIDE FROM YOUR OBVIOUS MOTIVATION BEING YOUR FISCAL LOSSES, YOU GO ON TO INSULT JUST ABOUT EVERY PLAYER THAT HAS COME THROUGH THE MEMPHIS PROGRAM BY ASSERTING THAT THEY MUST HAVE ONLY COME BECAUSE THEY WERE PAID TO COME. WOW, IS THAT SOUR MILK I SMELL? A NC STATE FAN MAD BECAUSE THEY LOST COUSINS? A KANSAS FAN HENRY PICKED MEMPHIS? A ILLINOIS FAN FLUSTERED BECAUSE ROSE BLOOMED IN MEMPHIS? A NOVA FAN SAD BECAUSE EVENS FELT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO BETTER DEVELOP UNDER CAL? OR A DUKE FAN MAD BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE JOHN WALL IS GOING TO SUIT UP IN MEMPHIS NEXT YEAR? OHHH WAIT IS THAT A MICH ST FAN STILL MAD THAT THE WINNINGEST PLAYER IN NCAA HISTORY ANTONIO ANDERSON PICKED MEMPHIS???

REGARDLESS YOU HAVE SHOWED YOU LEVEL OF INTELLIGENCE AND CLASS, OR LACK OF BOTH. I AM NOT A LAWYER, BUT I HOPE SOMEONE WHO READS YOU CHILDLIKE RANT IS AND CAN INFORM CAL AND HIS FORMER PLAYERS, IM SURE THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN YOUR DEFAMATION OF THEIR CHARACTER, AND CLAIMS OF IMPROPER ACTS.

HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY IN WHATEVER WORLD YOU DECIDE TO LIVE IN, AND DONT WORRY WHEN YOU DECIDE TO COME BACK TO REALITY THE TIGERS, AND CAL WILL BE WAITING TO LET YOU KNOW THEY ARE STILL AROUND MAKE BLUE BLOODS AROUND THE COLLEGE BASKETBALL WORLD CRINGE AT THE POSSIBILITY OF SEEING THEM IN THEIR BRACKET EACH MARCH.

STILL NO REPLY FROM BOOB, OPPS I MEAN BOB.

I complained to Bleacher Report with this:

Quote:There is a hit piece on John Calipari that goes over the line in saying he pays for players. By someone called Barenuckles. Not only does this bring the level of your site down but is slanderous.

I for one will make sure that Coach Calipari is aware and do hope he takes legal action against Fox, Bleacher Report and CBS Sports.com

Now how do I get this to Coach Cal?

They must be so conflicted. They don't know whether to speak highly of Cal on the .00001% chance that they could land him or just stick with the smack for when he dismisses their offers.

I think you just ignore articles like this and they will go away. I didn't read it and really don't care what the hack had to say. I doubt Cal is worried about this or ever will be. Performance is reality. I believe the term is libelous, not slanderous.

RE: John Calipari and the Memphis Tigers, You Can't Fool Me
Kentucky fans can dream all they want, but let's not forget 2 years ago when they ran off Tubby Smith. NOBODY was giving them the time of day. Donovan showed no interest, Calipari publicly said no thanks, Self didn't bite, they knew there was no way in he!! Pitino was leaving Louisville, and Roy Williams will be at Carolina til he dies. They ended up settling for their 6th or 7th choice (BCG), who did a decent job with Texas A&M and had signed a contract extension with the Aggies. I still remember Gillespie publicly turning down Arkansas at the time (Pig fans are almost as delusional as Kentucky, but that's a story for another day) because he wanted to stay at A&M and build on their success.

That lasted until Kentucky came calling, but now the Bluegrass faithful are experiencing buyer's remorse. It seems like BCG is little more than a flash in the pan who is in over his head and a bunch of people now want to run him out of town. Yet UK fans still think that the top coaches will crawl over broken glass for the privilege of coaching in Lexington. UK may be a more prestigious job than Memphis or other places, but a lot of the luster is gone.

To the 1 ignoramus who posted on catspause that he'd throw a 10 year, $35 million contract at Calipari...news flash...he makes about $3.5 mil per year here when you include the longevity annuities, probably over $ 4 mil when you take the Nike deals and performance bonuses into account. Speaking strictly about the money involved, why would Cal agree to make what would in effect be a lateral move (if not a demotion) to UK ? Not to mention that Gilliespie has zero impact players recruited for next season and their 2 best players on this year's mediocre team are likely leaving for the pros?

Just got this from BleacherReport.com

Quote: Dave Mo, an employee of Bleacher Report, replied to Slanderous article could get your site in legal trouble, a problem about Bleacher Report.
Hey Alvin,

Bleacher Report is an Open Source Network.

That article is just the opinion of that author.

Cheers,

If it was the only thing she was wearing...

The thing is....

If he presented some actual material evidence why he thought Memphis would lose that would be one thing. Instead, he just rambles on with hate. It makes no sense. He just comes across as a bumbling fool instead of some rationale behind his perception of our impending doom.

Here's what I posted as a comment on this idiots story:

Wow. I truly hope that this whole article was just either a joke or a good bit of sarcasm, because if it isn't...I must name him my second most idiotic person in the world of sports (behind Doug Gottlieb and ahead of Seth Davis). How can you possibly say or think that Cal is not a good coach? He takes a Memphis team that was down in the dumps, and brings them up..winning the NIT, making the tournament, and then 2005-2006 happens...we are in the Elite Eight; and then another in 06-07; and then a Title game in 07-08!! And TBD for 08-09. and then you got next years team, probably the best class in the modern CBB era!! Cal isn't a good coach, well in that case..you are a good writer. Way to clog Bleacherreport with your stupidity.
