Great job, that's a well thought-out list. I just have one question for both of you....do you really think that Lorenzen was better than Larry Kenon? Other than that, it's hard to argue with what you've got there.

I would take our best team in their college prime against the best of any other school, especially our 1-4...

I posted my list before reading the other lists. We agree 100%, except I have a healthy David Vaugh for Kenon. I was not a Tiger fan during Kenon's time, so never saw him play.

Apples and orages. Different players with different games do not make for an all-time list. It's like comparing Peyton Manning with Johnny U. It can't be done and is irrelevant.

I don't think you can go necessarily by position. My five best players would be (in chronological order):

Win Wilfong (most of you aren't old enough to remember, but very few were ever better)

Good try but Keith has to start over Dorsey, just look at the stats plus he's a scorer. I would put Reke over Finch.

Dorsey is in purely for defense. That line up has plenty of scoring. Lee will get in pretty quick cause I am sure Joey will pick up 2 quick fouls.

Great comments and list. I didn't discount Win's contribution, but didn't see how he could be on the "best ever" team as a forward at 6'2" and didn't see him better than Anfernee or Larry at guard. Win is the bedrock that we built our succesful basketball foundation on.

Frankly, we've been fortunate enough that if you named 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc teams, our 6th team would be very good. We've been fortunate as Tiger fans to have many, many great players to cheer for.

I chose Bedford over Wright because he was just a better college center though certainly nothing like the pro Wright has been (Wright certainly had a better motor).

I tried to keep it to the players I have seen play. I have only been following the Tigers since 1980.

I'm relatively young, so I can only go back to Elliott Perry. My first real ride doesn't include the great players of the 80s and 70s, so we're talking EP and after...

Roles matter. I'm taking a whole team. I want:

Starters:
C: a Scoring Center
PF: A Boards and Def
SF/SG: A versatile SF/SG
SG: a destructive scorer at the 2
PG: a distributor and scorer at the 1.

Bench:
6th Man: Instant damn offense
7th Man: Post scorer
8th Man: pure backup point
9th Man: zone breaker
10th Man: Forward muscle and Havoc creater
11th Man: Lockdown D, Coach on the Floor
12th Man: The entertainer
One Walkon, b/c they count too.

My squad:

C: Chris Massie. Tough for my time frame limitations. Also considered Barron, Wise, Anthony Douglas
PF: Kelly Wise. Always was better than considered otherwise. Great board man. Also considered Tags, Dozier, Sneed
SF: Penny. Can play 4 positions and was the greatest Memphis player I ever saw.
SG: CDR. Not as good an outside shooter as I would like, but can score. We will have to sub in outside shooting.
PG: Rose. Excellent player. Also considered Evans, Perry, Garner.

6th Man/Offense/G: Tyreke Evans. Unstoppable one on one scorer. A nightmare for opposition and can play 1,2, or 3.
7th Man/Post Scorer/F/C: Tags. Again not ideal. This squad is better in the backcourt. Considered Dozier and Sneed as well.
8th Man/Backup PG: Perry. Garner also considered heavily. K. Shine might get some love here too. Can sub for Rose and press all day.
9th Man/Zone Breaker: Hunt. Marcus Moody also considered. But Hunt could hit from anywhere.
10th Man/Muscle and Havoc F: Joey Dorsey. An athletic freak. Joey. Get that ball!
11th Man/D and coaching: AAnderson. The next coach of the Memphis tigers
12th Man/The entertainer: Mike Wilson. 12'. Incredible.

IR3: Garner
