Garrett Wolfe mention in Sun Times
There was a GW blurb in Monday's Sun Times:

"Garrett Wolfe had an electric run on a draw play tha drew cheers usually reserved for Devin Hester plays".

-Brad Biggs

I just noticed it while reading a day old paper. I'm sure Ron Turner wasn't paying attention to the play.

RE: Garrett Wolfe mention in Sun Times
I still see Garrett Wolfe having a tough uphill battle making the final roster. Unless Kevin Jones isn't ready to go or the Bears reverse course and decide not to keep six wide receivers. Right now you'd have to say that Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson and Kevin Jones are locks at running back and that three backs max will be carried. Brandon Lloyd, Devin Hester, Rashied Davies, Marty Booker and Earl Bennett are virtual locks at wide receiver. The only wildcard is whether Mark Bradley finally decides to do something which therefore compels Lovie Smith to want to keep six WRs.

Meaning Wolfe's fate is interwined with Bradley's.

I think they'll keep 4 RBs. Too soon to say though.

I cant even tell you how many heated arguments ive gotten in with OmeletPants...that guy is the biggest douche of all time. Im convinced that Garrett slammed that dude's wife or something. He spends 24 hours a day ripping on garrett wolfe on a message board. I hope he gets blindsided by a bus at a high rate of speed

+1

I read Omeletpants comments last year and I don't get it either. He must have some personal issue with GW. If any random act of violence ever happens to Wolfe I think we know where to look.

I would like to see bad stuff happen to that guy too - miserable mf'er.

Wolfe has a hammy. If he can't play for a while, PJ Pope might get the nod.

7,

That is me on that message board. The OmeletPants poster is just a jagoff. You can't even mention Wolfe's name without that a-hole chiming in with another childish comment. The sad thing is that some of the other posters think he's funny. But I guess if you're still in elementary school, maybe it is funny.

Yea, that hamstring problem could end his career if it continues. Hard to get on the field when you can't practice. I don't think you can tell that much from training camp. I want to see preseason at least before I make any judgements.

I wondered if Wolfe wasn't prepared enough for more playing time last year. Sounds like Wolfe has figured out what he needs to do now to prepare. Hopefully the hammy heals quickly. I look forward to seeing him get a chance to play.

RE: Garrett Wolfe mention in Sun Times
I have read numerous reports that the signing of Kevin Jones will not at all affect wolfe's place on the team. The Running backs coach for the bears says that "wolfe has loads of talent, and we need to use it." I think the plan is for him to be a factor on 3rd downs. I guess they gave us the same garbage last season, but we'll see. Plus, who knows what injuries could occur that push wolfe into a more prominent role.

Garrett Wolfe's chances of making this team was already in question. This latest injury problem only makes his chances that much more tough. His leg problems seem to have taken on a chronic nature.

Why are all your posts so negative?

Not negative. Merely objective riddled. Unfortunately, the addition of Kevin Jones all but sealed Garrett Wolfe's fate with the Chicago Bears.

I dont think it has, Nigel. The team still claims he is going to be in their 3rd down plans. Kevin Jones is a guy who, when healthy, will contend for the STARTING running back job. Garrett is the only 3rd down scatback on the team. Until we bring in Darren Sproles, I think his roster spot is fine.

I went to Bourbonnais yesterday. Garrett was getting the second-loudest cheers (behind Hester) after he made good plays. Saw several Wolfe Bears jerseys and NIU shirts and hats. It seems like the majority of fans like GW.

I like Garrett Wolfe too. But as a diehard Bears fan Garrett Wolfe A)) was a reach in the 3rd round and B)) is likely going to be a victim of the numbers game given that I believe Lovie Smith will keep three running backs and Matt Forte, Kevin Jones and Adrian Peterson are ahead of him on the depth chart. It doesnt' help that Wolfe is battling leg problems that have become recurring theme.

Congrats - you are our resident Chicken Little.

the sky is blue, but it could rain!
by taking GW in the third round, the Bears have doomed him to fail
the grass is green, but it could go brown!
Joe Novak's legacy is nothing but the last year he coached

You are nothing but the most glass half-empty guy on this board. It's like you revel in your own dissapointments, and take joy in writing them out......

"by taking GW in the third round, the Bears have doomed him to fail"

its not that GW was doomed to fail because he was picked in the 3rd round, its that he should not have been picked in the 3rd round because of what successful NFL RBs in the past have that he doesn't have. As much as us NIU fans love him, we have to realize, that the NFL is not college football, and put our bias aside. As much as we want to discount the whole size factor, it makes a huge difference when everyone is just as fast as you.

Precisely. As both a fan of NIU and the Bears I admit to groaning loudly when Garrett Wolfe was selected in the 3rd round. He was a ridiculous reach at that stage of the draft. Best case scenario he can transform into a specialized third down weapon. You don't waste a valuable 3rd round pick on a risky proposition in a specialized back who lacks the physical skills to play an important role on special teams. And now it would seem problem with hamstring is becoming the norm.

More power to GW for getting picked in the 3rd round. He picked up $600k in signing bonus and a few hundred k for the season last year. I am proud of him as a fellow alum. If he can somehow stick around longer, he will be even better off in the future.

RE: Garrett Wolfe mention in Sun Times
NIJ,

I've lost count how many times you've said that Wolfe was a reach in the 3rd round..I think we get your point. He probably was a reach but do you think Angelo is going to give up on the guy after 1 season w/minimal touches and horrible play calling along with an under performing O-Line? I think not.

And you keep saying the Bears wasted their 3rd round pick on Wolfe. That maybe so but do you think they're just going to give up on him that easily? He may have been a waste/reach whatever you want to call it for a 3rd round pick, but they're going to get the most they can out of that waste as possible.

I'm pretty sure the Bears will keep 4RBs & 1 FB instead of 3RBs & 2FBs. You can say I'm being bias and maybe I am, but that's what I honestly think will happen.

So does that mean Wolfe's hamstring is feeling better?

He played -- with a big wrap on the leg -- but looked close to full speed.
