Boone Pickens to build worlds largest windmill farm.
Quote:LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ (B) Billionaire T. Boone Pickens is planning to cash in on the wind energy boom by building the world's largest wind farm in West Texas.

The oil tycoon and Oklahoma native is offering a $6 billion plan to install large wind turbines in parts of four Panhandle counties.

Pickens spokesman Mike Boswell today said the Mesa Power project would produce up to four-thousand megawatts of electricity.

Experts say the facility would generate more than five times the 735 megawatts produced at the present largest wind farm near Abilene.

Boswell says construction of the Pickens project would begin in 2010 and involve as many as 200-thousand acres in Roberts, Gray, Hemphill and Wheeler counties.

The farm would have as many as two-thousand wind turbines.

Pickens met yesterday in Pampa with about 250 area landowners.

Pretty sure it's coincidental, but congrats!

Don't worry, Texas birds are smarter, and tougher too, than those hippie birds out in California that keep running into the darn things.

Let's hope there are no Kennedy's living in the area because they killed a windmill project in their home town because it would have "altered the landscape" of their view.

In the panhandle no one is around or cares about "altering the landscape", at least they've got that going for them!

AND .... W A T E R ! ! !

http://seekingalpha.com/article/24410-t-...should-you

Folks, especially the farming ones, are not going to like this very much, unless they are on the selling end to Boone ! Not too good an idea to be draining the underground water sheds too fast. The country may be better off building an aqueduct, like the one from Northern California to Southern California. It could be built for taking water from some of the flooding rivers of the North Plains to the South Plains. Just a thought !

If you don't know about this HUGE project, you need to take a look !!

http://users.owt.com/chubbard/gcdam/html...ation.html

Home site for the above:

Several other sites shown here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=gra...gle+Search

This kind of project could be accomplished several places on huge rivers of the North.

At least, I think so, before tooooooo many lawyers get involved ! 03-banghead

Oh you know Boone has biologists checking bird migratory routes to make sure nothing on the endangered species list flies in the area.

The tree huggers out on the West Coast killed their windfarm.

But far West Texas seems perfect for it. Nothing out there but "Religious Compounds."
