Has anyone from the current/new CUSA schools actually done a cost comparison of just what it will cost your university sports programs to travel to UTEP vs. La Tech on an annual basis? Not just what an airline ticket to El Paso vs Shreveport is. I suspect for several schools (especially the west schools who would be division mates) the difference is substantial. Those of you with the contacts inside the AD meeting should be able to come up with those numbers. Just curious.

Yes, I did a detailed analysis. Here are the results:
CUSA teams to UTEP = Very, very expensive.
CUSA teams to LOUISIANA TECH = Very, very affordable.
That pretty much sums it up.

My estimate
Marshall, ECU, UCF---no difference; they fly either place and if there is a difference tech is more expensive as it will also require a greyhound ride.
The rest- 1 football charter a year- call it $50,000. 6 non-football trips- $500 a ticket, an average of 15 persons, or $7,500 per trip, total 43K
Total difference just under 100K per year per team.
Just guessing, but think I'm on the high side.
Turdzoned you've been perstering every message board that will listen.Even Montana.Dude get a life in Lafayette.I'm sure there has got to be something there to do besides beat your wife.

Damn I didn't even go to the Montana MSG board <------- :stupid: , Someone else brought the Grizz fan over to prove to him what I was saying was True. That Montana will never jump I-A as long as I-AA Big Sky is stable . I just posted Montana's msg board so MR TopCoog could get laughed off the site once he went and told them that. I do go there during football season, but you would never find me. Ive been a reg. user 3 years and have yet to post. I have no reason to post there. I have no stake in that conf. you see.

Believe more focus is placed on REVENUE then cost.
UTEP (as of now), can/has brought in much more revenue then LaTech in the 2 major sports (aka Football and Basketball).
If travel costs were really important...then ECU, Marshall, UCF, etc...wouldn't be members...and the Conf would like lik ULM, ULL, La Tech, Tulane, LSU, & USM.
As noted...most teams fly to games. Cost of a charter doesn't change that much from destination to destination.
Yes, travel costs might be a plus for LaTech...but I think with new TV Contracts, etc...CUSA AD's and Presidents will look at which team can help bring in REVENUE, if they want to go to 12 teams.
It's in the President's Court.
They have to decide if the revenue will increase for all 11 teams IF we add a 12th team...and get a Conf Champ Game.
If the 12th team can't add more revenue for the other 11 teams....then Presidents will stay at 11.

Marshall owns their own Charter plane anyway so Im sure they aren't worried about it, this is all going to come down to facilities and the fact of the matter is UTEP has them and Tech doesn't.
What about all the other C-USA sponsored men's and women's sports...........I would think that Marshall bussed (or took vans) to almost all MAC venues for those kind of endeavors, but now must fly to most all C-USA locales. Again, I know that this was figured into the cost vs. revenue projections, and the Herd administration figured that it would still be a net gain for the University, but you kind of have to find out what all those costs are since you don't get any revenue on that side of the coin.
As for UTEP, as it has pretty much already been said, they are remote from most everything, so their travel costs may not change all that much with the C-USA divisional set-up.

ECK, I think you answered your own question......
It's a "beautiful thing" when I manage to do that, HZ. (actually, the only point of my post is that previous posters were focusing primarily on the cost for travel for revenue sports, but that is only part of the equation). I realize that Marshall did its homework first.
Southwest Airlines flies into El Paso. Can't get much cheaper than that, unless you bus. While LaTech is 200 to 350 miles from 8 C-USA schools, I can't see many 4-6 hour bus rides for C-USA schools.
UTEP has shown an ability to earn NCAA basketball units. Each one of those is worth almost $1 million.
Bottom line, I am confident that the ADs have run the revenue and cost projections for each scenario.
Makes sense Red but what about this Independence Bowl thing? Just a question but if you could pick up the Sun and the Independence would
