I already did and am waiting for a reply. Not sure what his work schedule is, but if he has left for the day he might not check his email until Monday.

Here's the email I got back from him (jim tirey of clearchannel radio)

Mark,

My sources have confirmed this but it is not public yet. Unless a huge disaster happens (which is not out of the question regarding WKU), it will happen. They'll start play in basketball 2005-06, football 2005, I think...

I don't mean to sound rude at all and forgive me if I do, but I fail to see the relevance of western kentucky to the MAC on a C-USA messageboard. Why exactly do we need this guy's contact info to confirm the story? Does anyone from C-USA care?

Again, forgive me if my response is a little rough around the edges, as I am not trying to flame....I just find the post a little random, that's all.

I saw on killerfrogs where some guy on a wku messageboard was making it sound like they turned down us in favor of the MAC. And he didn't put one of those "lol" or ironic smilies afterwards.

WKU was never even considered I believe....so that should give a good idea of the pecking order....

I'm speechless....

Yep. I got a similar email from Tirey. It is not really confirmed, just that this guy did say this.

He said this is what his inside sources tell him. Normally this doesn't mean much, however, James Tirey is an alum of WKU. In fact, he played football at WKU.

Whether he is right or not still remains to be seen, but he just may be right.

The rumor is that C-USA offered WKU for all sports but football, but they turned it down to take an all sports invite from the MAC. The idea of all sports but football has me wondering if C-USA was looking to Temple for football only and WKU for the other sports.

Again, just a rumor.

Why don't you rockets just join c-usa, end this nightmare, so that we can all move forward.

What I like is a four paragraph post culminated with "I'm speechless....."

Not trying to rag on you just found that funny.

And you're right. Western Kentucky? Who cares? I'm sure CUSA pursued them with no holds barred.

Why don't C-USA just invite Toledo?

Good for Western Kentucky. The MAC is a step-up for them and they'll fit in that conference well.

Why don't C-USA just invite Toledo?

I wish they would.

Of course, some reports say we did and you rejected

Others say we didn't because of geography (no more of an outlier than UTEP).

Time to revisit Toledo.

does this mean WKU will join div. 1A for football, or is it all sports but FB?

It is probably too late to revisit Toledo at this point. With the MAC probably bringing in WKU and who knows who else, they have shown two things:

1 - They are prepared if they happen to lose a couple of teams to the 15K attendence rule.

2 - They are committed to getting stronger and MAC basketball will be very improved with WKU.

There have been too many good signs coming out of the MAC lately for Toledo to leave without a package of 3 MAC schools, which won't happen. I got to hand it to Rick Chryst (MAC Commisioner). I think he knew he couldn't lose Toledo or Miami so he took action and gave them a reason to stay around.

From what I heard WKU will spend a little over $30 million on renovating their football stadium and going to I-A. Apparently they have some inside people that will donate some big money. They plan on moving the track out of the football field and adding seats to the open side. I think they are planning on expanding from their present capacity of 18K up to about 30K.

Because BB is an Idiot....

I never thought of that scenario with Temple. But the only attracted thing about Temple is their B-ball program. But on the other hand WKU has a very damn good B-ball program and would have been a nice fit for CUSA and Temple would have been nice for Marshall and ECU in football.

Oh well!

Wow...didn't even notice that...

Hey if you can't laugh at yourself, who CAN you laugh at?

And rocket, I would love nothing more than to see us put an offer on the table to Toledo. I'm still partial to adding 2-3 MAC schools if that's what it takes, but obviously C-USA brass doesn't feel the same.

Anyway, it does seem that Rick Chryst is taking the necessary steps to stay proactive with the MAC, and for that give him his due....

Probably a good move by the Hilltoppers.
Once you win the National Championship
in 1-AA, nothing left to proove, and I think they
won it.

Good luck to them.

What is this doing on this messageboard?? You have to love the offseason.

(I know this is a late response, however.....)

Some are asking why we didn't invite Toledo...don't ask C-USA, as Toledo.

[quote]UTEP is the favored candidate among a list that includes Louisiana Tech and North Texas but no longer includes Temple, Toledo and Miami of Ohio. Temple’s interest in C-USA is for football only, and the league is pondering only all-sports members. Mid-American Conference members Toledo and Miami, once on C-USA’s expansion radar, on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to staying in the MAC, and the MAC issued a statement of its “solidarity.

I knew I read it in an actual newspaper first, but was searching the Dallas Morning News...no wonder I couldn't find it. I usually don't post articles from student newspapers unless I know I read it somewhere else first (i.e. major newspaper).

As for Toledo being told to take a hike, no, I didn't know that. Otherwise, I would have kept my trap shut.

rocketfootball Wrote:
Hate to tell you this, but that was after C-USA did not show any interest in Toledo.

Our AD publicly said that we would listen to C-USA, but it was more than a month of nothing from C-USA when all MAC schools said they would stick together.

That's my understanding as well.

Which is curious as the main argument against Toledo, distance, applies to UTEP as well. I guess the baskets didn't excite the mid-eastern teams.

I wish Toledo had joined- I hate this western division (not the schools, just the set-up for the WAVE)
