Aside from football, men's basketball, and baseball, I'm wondering what other good sports teams the "new" C-USA schools have to offer. I don't know if I chose the best wording for my poll question, but I think you can all understand what I'm asking.

Well,

Since you asked.. 03-wink

How about 20 National Championships in Track and Field (Indoor, Outdoor, Cross Country)! :D

UTEP in T&F is like basketball's version of the UCLA of the '60s.

**EDIT**
Sorry if this was aimed at the verified incoming schools of Rice, Smu, etc...and not those being considered for expansion.

Tsk, tsk! 05-nono

Just kidding. :D I considered the possibility that fans of schools not in the "new" C-USA (at least, not at the moment) might respond. I don't have a problem with that. It's not like I can stop any of you from responding.

Guess I'll answer my own question. I thought about selecting the "soccer" option because UCF has had some pretty good women's soccer teams. Michelle Akers, a member of the U.S. national team, played for UCF. However, I clicked on "other" because our women's rowing team kicks @$$. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they've won a national title before.
Regardless of what has been successful in the past... we need to focus on womens basketball (outside of mens hoops, football, and baseball)... That is the sport that will get us the most publicity out of whats left.
Had to go with other, since there are actually two sports:

Track and Field and Mens Golf

Mens Golf: 16 National Titles, several players (i.e. Fred Couples)
Track and Field: Carl Lewis and Leroy Burrell (Burrell now coaches the UH T&F team).
I put women's basketball because Rice has had a pretty good team lately and UH... well, you know! :D

I know Rice has also done decently in tennis. UH's "country club" sport o' choice is golf.

Expect some very long posts from SMU peeps (if they see this thread).
Rice is currently ranked #12 in men's tennis, and we have traditionally done very well in both men's and women's track.
Tulsa has won the Women's golf championship, Nancy Lopez, probably more than once because every year they are ranked in the top 10 or very close to it. The men's soccer program has been ranked a number of times as has the men's golf team. The women's basketball team is getting better every year including going to the WNIT last year. Tulsa was in the College World series a number of times but dropped baseball--c'est la vive!!

GoUMTerps

I voted for tennis:

Marshall is won their second consecutive regular season MAC Title in women's tennis, their fourth consecutive MAC East title in women's tennis, and third consecutive MAC tournament title in women's tennis, and the attached NCAA berths to go with them.

Marshall finished fifth in the MAC in women's golf this season in their third year of existence.

Marshall finished second in the MAC women's volleyball tourney this season after finishing third in the MAC East with the best record in school history.

Marshall won six Southern Conference crowns in women's basketball in the 80s, and in the second year of the Royce Chadwick era, finished tied for sixth in the conference at 8-8, finished the season at 18-12, the most wins in nine years for the women, qualified for the MAC tourney for the first time, and won two games in the tourney before losing to eventual champ Eastern Michigan in the semifinals.

Marshall women's swimming had the MAC swimmer of the year, a sophomore, and she competed in the NCAA meet for the first time in Marshall history. Women's swimming is three years old.

Softball was picked to win the conference this season, but isn't. They won last year. Softball is ten years old.
Women's golf, Women's tennis, men's tennis, women's basketball. Wave won the titles in the first 3 and although the women's baskets team was terrible this year, they have played in the NCAAs 9/10 years and have won more c-usa tourney titles than anyone else by a wide margin.

Tulsa is a storied women's golf program. Just to name a few alums - Nancy Lopez, Kelly Robbins and Carin Koch. Some of you oldtimers might remember Jody Rosenthal, who won a bunch on the LPGA tour in the 80s. Our most recent All-American, Stacy Prammanasudh (we call her Stacy P), is in the top 20 on the money list in her first full season on the LPGA tour and was the leading money-winner on the Futures tour last year.

But also throw in a WAC championship in cross country last year and our softball team is currently 2nd in the WAC (over 40 wins). Our olympic sports programs are pretty darn good across the board.

Our sports programs have pretty much owned the Atlantic Sun Conference, winning more conference titles than any other league member ever has. During this past academic year alone, we've won titles in men's tennis, men's basketball, men's golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's track and field, and volleyball.

Close calls: We lost to Lipscomb in the women's basketball championship game. Our women's tennis team lost to Troy State in the championship match.

The men's cross country team finished 3rd in the conference, and the women finished 4th.

Our softball team sits atop the A-Sun standings as of April 28th.

We look forward to the new challenges C-USA will bring, although I know things will get much more difficult.
