Maybe we can start cleaning up all that LaTech slob that's all over the "house" furniture and start moving forward. We're probably gonna have to change out the carpet though. It's absorbed too much of that nasty Tech odor. I know, I know......I should have a heart and show a little sympathy....but I can't. They need to go where they belong and stop blaming us instead of taking account of their own shortcomings. Hell, many of the more deluded ones are over their right on BB&B blaming us for their own failures.
In retrospect, maybe I could have been nicer. But I noticed early on a certain level and indignance and entitlement among those people that I didn't notice in the fans of the other candidates. They didn't take criticism well. And they couldn't evangalize their "product" either. They just had an overall nasty attitude of entitlement. And when that didn't work, they begged (or threatened). And now many are telling themselves the WAC is better anyways (which is fine by me). But now that they're gone, somebody's gonna have to call a plumber to unclug the toilet. 07-john

Man, Algiers, that's kind of harsh. What have these Louisiana Tech folks ever done, besides want to see their school get in a better situation. I can't beleive anyone on this board could blame them for that.

I don't post on this site much, but I read it every day. I have been a bit troubled by all this bullying of Louisiana Tech Fans. Maybe some of them have given back as good as they've got, but I wouldn't really blame most of them.

I actually feel sorry for these folks - I have read some of their boards, and it is clear that they wanted in the CUSA very badly. Now, it looks as if they'll be in an island in their own conference, or even possibly have to move down to the Sunbelt.

Could you imagine if Southern Miss was in that situation? These fans can't help it that they haven't had good coaches, athletic directors, or university presidents who haven't focused on helping their athletics.

Most of these message board fans have done their part - they've been at games, they've given their money, and they've supported their teams. They've done the same that many of the rest of us have done, but the fruits of their labors will seemingly be much more disappointing.

We have it good at Southern Miss, because we've have a long history of being committed to athletic success. We've probably done more with less than just about any other school in Div. 1 athletics. But we aren't so superior to Louisiana Tech that we couldn't have been in their shoes if things had been different.

Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss are very similar as Universities, as are other public Universities in region. Northern Louisiana, culturally, is virtually the same as North and South Mississippi. Just look at Ole Miss and Mississippi State, for example. Those two teams have greatly underacheived, despite having virtually every advantage thrown their way. Without the SEC welfare for years, they'd probably be no better than Louisiana Tech.

I'm just rambling now, and getting off topic. But what I really want to say is this: There's no need to bash Louisiana Tech and it's fans. They just want to see their university succeed, and they want to be in a better conference. In that respect, they're no difference than the rest of us.

We, as Southern Miss fans, should definitely understand where they are coming from. We've played the underdog role for years, and before finding the CUSA, we toughed it out in the stormy waters of independence. We've had lots of success, and for that we should be greatful. But when you boil it all down, we aren't so superior to Louisiana Tech that they deserve to be treated in the manner they have been on this board.

Just think of how we all feel when Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans start their crap with us. It isn't any more legitimate coming from them, than it would be coming to Louisiana Tech from us.

I'm ashamed of you, Algiers.

You, Catfish, are a good, fair person...... I just got back from a BarBQ function here in Houston and had an opportunity to have a beer with a friend of mine who also happens to be an alum from USM. I thought about Algiers and Eager during our conversation and couldn't help but smile and realize how much they are in the minority of people from Southern. Most of the people I have ever come into contact with from Hattisburg have been very geniune southern gentlemen and/or ladies. Class people with good values. I can't help but wishing you all the very best, even with 'goofballs' like those two on your team bus.

I commend catfish eagle for his reply.

As a fan in this conference I wanted the best team we could add for the 12th member. Everyone has their own opinion on who that is. To be honest La. Tech was last on my list. Not because I dislike La. Tech in any manner. The reality is that C-USA has taken a hit by being raided by the Big EAST. We need to add the strongest team possible for our conference to make up some lost ground and to make the rebuilding process a more rapid one. I am sorry but La. Tech does not fit that bill. They have not financially shown the committment to do that. I wish they had because they are a perfect geographic fit and have passionate fans. Taking La' Tech would help them, but would not help us. I feel bad for their fans, thier situation stinks if UTEP is invited and I hope they make lemonadew out of the lemons. I hope they find a way to prosper.
Am I bitter like some folks about old conference mates leaving?, NO. I look towards the future with hope and excitement. I wish nothing but the best for Louisville, Cincinatti, and USF. I do not blame them one bit. They will improve themselves in perception and $$$. TCU. What shall I say. I honestly think it was a bad choice by their adminstration to switch conferences. NO BCS, no more $$$, more travel expenses. The only positive for them is if the BIG EAST raids C-USA in 5 years and takes 4 more east coast teams. I am really not sure that will happen. I have nothing against their fans. Thier administration seems to lack good judgement. If the rumors are true that they look down at SMU and that was one reason for leaving, then I even have less respect for thier administration. Their fans are excellent and they are growing in sports.
Some people like to smack talk on boards. Some find that fun, others find it insulting. That's life 04-drinky

You are, of course, right about catfish's reply and USM fans in general. They're good folks. But in fairness, you didn't acknowledge the "goofballs" of your own, and that many of them have infested this board with lies and attacks on CUSA schools and other candidate schools for the last few months. It's no secret that I've never been in favor of a LaTech invite. That said, I won't take any pleasure in the disappointment of LaTech fans and wish you and your school well. Just the same, I'm in favor of cutting a little slack to the CUSA boys who lash out a bit right now given the amount of LaTech bullcrap that's been on this board for quite some time. Just a little slack mind you. :)

Welcome to the Miners. It looks like it's a done deal. 04-cheers

Enough of the bickering, right?

Good luck to La Tech wherever you end up.

I had no strong feelings about La tech... Nt... or Utep... Hopefully the prez have made the best choice... I wish the other schools success where ever they end up...

It isnt over yet but my two cents here applies either way. Louisiana Tech fans have learned a lot about their school that many of them apparently didnt know. At first most of what we posted about them was labled as lies but that attitude seemed to mellow as facts were provided to back it up. Maybe they can learn from the experience and, next time around if there is one, dont approach fans from other conferences with a sense of entitlement and DONT BEG. That turns people off more than anything.

Their biggest problem in all of this was the fact that their sense of superiority and beligerence was challenged and they cant handle that. They are accustomed to ridiculing and degrading ULM, NW La, etc who dont fight back and became totally shocked when fans on this board stood fast and didnt retreat from their bully tactics.

Algiers and Eager please grow up and get a life. Y'all are taking this stuff way to seriously. You do realize this is college athletics, something that makes absolutely no real difference in the world at all. "fans on this board stood fast" I'm sure you will forever be remembered for you "stand" against disgusting and ignorant Louisiana TECH fans. I think what I've learned from all this is how juvenile some people can be. For all the classy fans that have their heads screwed on right, good luck.

Excellent Post, my Bulldog Brother.

I don't remember any Tech fans throwing the first grenade (case in point: THIS THREAD...what's the purpose of the first posting?), but we certainly didn't back down from the fight either.

Regardless if UTEP gets "the call" today or not...I wish them nothing but the best. But, as we learned in 2000 from Florida...EVERY VOTE COUNTS. If by some miracle it's us that gets the call, I hope the level of maturity on everyone's part increases.

All of us need to get to work on building the best conference we can build, regardless of where we reside.

Hey, Catfish, sorry for not fulfilling the role of a "polite Mississippian" (maybe I've been down here in Sin City too long 03-wink ). But that ain't my style. These folks have dished it (even when nobody really thought they were a serious candidate), now they can take it. But suffice to say, you and I both know that 90% of our fans wanted nothing to do with Tech. Nor JB. Nor Mr. G (God bless his soul). You, like most Mississippians (I was born there too you know) are just being polite. And there ain't nothing wrong with that. The funny thing is that when this started, I really didn't have anything against Tech, just didn't want 'em in the league. But I always admired their ability to compete and do "more with less" (familiar theme?). Though I didn't want them, I still thought they were a superior choice to schools like UNT and ULaLa............but not anymore. I'll say what others think but won't say. They've overtaken this forum with their dribble and now it's over. But, I know, I know......they'll be back (hopefully UNT will have supplanted them by then if it ever comes down to it). BTW-----I still ain't happy with UTEP (but at least they ain't Tech).

Whatever, Algiers. I never compared "Tech's plight" with that of Jesus Christ. I simply made the analogy that THAT is probably the most famous instance (that I know of, anyway) where Truth was laid out for the world to see...and still 2/3's of the world don't believe in Him.

If you're going to attempt to discredit me personally, at least do it in the correct context.
