Thanks for the note on the rivals board.

C-USA officials aren't the best either.

it will take us a few years to get back to where we were in basketball. In football however i expect us to be a direct threat within 2 years.
The Tigers made the News of the Weird this week.

Quote:
Suspicions confirmed
In November, four University of Memphis basketball players, who share an apartment on campus, reported a break-in, with items missing (according to the police report obtained by WPTY-TV) including $6,000 worth of shoes, $4,000 of custom-made shirts, $6,000 of trousers and $40,000 of mink coats.

Can you say NCAA investigation? I hope not.

The coat value was a mistake. The actual value was $5,000. They belonged to a female "dancer" friend of one of the players.

I really don't believe that there is anything for the NCAA to investigate. They players make a fair amount of money working for FedEx in the summer.

The shoes, shirts and pants all belonged to one player who is a walk on.

You never know about basketball - it can be turned around quickly.

I love the St. Louis Cardinals banner in your sig. Is Tulsa, Cardinal country?

For many years the St. Louis Cardinals triple-A farm team was the Tulsa Oilers. When A. Ray Smith moved the team to Louisville he didn't take the Cardinal fans with him. Tulsa ended up with a Texas Rangers Double A farm club but I would be willing to bet there are still more Cardinal (and maybe Royals) fans in Tulsa that Ranger fans. I haven't followed MLB since the last strike because I don't believe in pampered millionaires striking but if I was going to follow a team it would be the Cardinals. BTW, my handle is because of where I live and work now but I lived in Tulsa for 25 years before moving.

well STL has a new team in the Texas League.
Looking forward to hosting the Tigers at Skelly Stadium next fall! Hope a bunch of you can make that 6 hour drive. 04-cheers

I am looking forwrd to the trip also. As far as driving time from Memphis goes Tulsa should be the 4th closest.

Birmingham 4 hours
Hattiesburg 4 1/2 hours
New Orleans 5 1/2 hours
Tulsa 6 hours
Dallas 6 hours

The UAB people will aruge this fact but we took 7,000 - 8,000 to Birmingham this year.

Do you guys play most of your games in the day or night?

Did you know that the Cards AAA team is now in Memphis. Louisville is now associated with the Reds. That makes sense - Cinci is 90 minutes from Louisville.

Memphis has always been a Cardinals town.

I still miss Jack Buck.

September games we play at night (6:00pm) to avoid the heat. November games we kick off at 2:00pm to enjoy what is usually great football weather.

October games... it varies. This year, we played both October home games at night. In fact, they printed "time TBA" on the schedules and tickets for the two October games.

Thanks Cane

That is pretty much what we do. Except our Sept games are a 7:00 kick (I prefer 6:00) Oct & Nov games are usually 1:00.

This year we played 2 Nov games on ESPN. It was cool for Louisville and COLD for So. Miss.

It was pretty nippy for our game against UTEP this past weekend. Low 50s at kickoff, but a strong NW wind that blew all game. When the sun set in the 4th quarter but the wind was still blowin', it was downright brisk.

Good hittin' weather! 04-cheers

part of the reason it was a dismal crowd.

Thanks for the note on the rivals board.

i wouldnt go 2 are rivals board. There all extremly optomistic. They still think we can go to the dance.

That from a guy who blames the coach for a 12-point loss to Arkansas, when the players committed 27 freaking turnovers!

What a GD loser.
Who freakin' recruited those players? Who trains those players (if you could call it training)? Who ultimately takes responsibility for wins or losses?

Yes we would :)

Tulsa 97 its no use I think he's realted to JP or something, I no he isn't but he acts so defensive. I can't see how you can tell me there is a problem catbird. And I have a question Why I hearrd that TU didn't offer Larry Cocker a Job because they thought he was to old? If thats true how stupid are we.
Despite what you two "97s" seem to think (and you're obviously not alone), I do not have my head in the sand and do not deny the men's basketball program is suffering a good deal.

The difference is in the approaches we take. I prefer to support the team (players and coaches) to the fullest extent. After this season is over, the administration will take any steps necessary to fix the program, according to how the team performs over the entire season.

Many others seem to require instant gratification. I admit that last year was a total disaster. None of our loyal fans, however, accepted any of the valid reasons for the team's serious under-performance: the graduation of five full-time players, the influx of seven players new to D-I basketball, a player who never met a shot he didn't like (whom the other players considered a "black hole").

Nobody seemed to accept that last year was a rebuilding year ... they expected to compete for a trip to the Final Four. So ... they put so much pressure on that team that they caved in and, later in the season, gave up. Our wonderful fans and the "support" they provided crushed the hell out of that team.

Now, three games in ... the pressure is unrelenting. No forgiveness for losing a game (AR) we were expected to lose. A game we would have won had it not been for 27 turnovers, many of which were caused by trying too hard.

What these guys need to do is relax a little and not press so hard they make careless mistakes. With the pressure being put on them by our fan base, how can they relax and play loose? Basketball is supposed to be fun ... and teams play their best ball when they are having some. How can they have fun when their fans are on them like religious on the Pope?

My beef is that nobody will step back long enough to see that this team is developing and improving. Nobody will give them credit for anything they do. If they win, it's because the other team was so freaking bad the Little Sisters of The Poor could have beaten them. If they lose, it's as though they lost to St. Mary's School For The Blind.

No credit.

Win, and win now! We demand instant gratification! JP Sucks! Players have not the talent to play D-I basketball! I'm right and nobody who wants me to slow my criticism has the brains to blow his nose or the intelligence of an ant. I pay my $10 and I want wins, baby, nothing but wins! No excuses, because I want wins. I don't care what you have to do ... cheat ... lower academic qualifications ..l. force professors to pass guys who don't go to class ... screw it all unless it translates into wins to satisfy me ... NOW!

That, gentlemen, is what I oppose. And that is why my posts try to point out that the administration will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time. All the hue and cry in the world will accomplish only one thing ... become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Bash me all you like. Call me Blue & Gold (as if it's an insult). Call me a homer because I will support any coach and player on this team as long as they represent the University of Tulsa. Nothing personal, fellas, but I'm so tired of seeing John Phillips and those young men get jumped so early and so often that my blood pressure rises on a daily basis.

Have at it
