Has anyone spoken any the player to see who is going and who is staying?
This most likely a premature question since I would guess most will wait until the HC actually arrives.
Should I say it?
What the hell.
Go Spartans!
I think over 50% of the time the coach probably helps the player decide if it's time to leave, so I think they will wait on the coach!! I can't imagine any seniors leaving and the rest probably hope for a new start with the new regime. If he got rid of very many we might end up with our next recruiting class being 7-8 players and I don't think any coach wants that!!
The guys met with Coach Woj last week as a team and individually. I know the conversation of staying or going came up with at least some of them. I have not heard of anyone leaving. The only possibility that I know of would be Collins leaving to play football or possibly playing both.
Thanks for the info, Pop.
Thanks for posting TUpop. Is Charles happy? As I told you at Champions, he is one of my favorites.
Charles and Coach Woj had a good talk and Charles seems to be encouraged by what was said. Charles is a very positive person and worked very hard last season to remain positive in his role coming off the bench whether that was for 15 minutes or 30 seconds. I feel his positive outlook and hard work in practice will fit in well with Coach Woj's system.
FROM TULSA WORLD SUNDAY PAPER: "Most believe Tulsa needs a big infusion of talent to play at the level of Conference USA, the league Tulsa joins next season.
But Wojcik said there are some nice players on the current roster and he is looking to supplement what is already on campus. "
I think that says a lot for the new coach and the players we have. I can't wait until next year to see what we have going.
Tell Charles to keep up the good work.
I guess you could say we officially have a coach!!!! We should start getting some more info on his plans now. I think we will see pretty quick if he is interested in trying to win immediately or completely build for the future by what he does with the two available scholarships. If he uses both now, a Juco center and shooter, he probably wants to make a lttle bigger splash next year. If he keeps them for NOV, 6 scholarships are an awful lot in one year, it really throws the classes off, he is strictly looking at the future and hoping somehow to be close to .500 next year. I can't wait to see what he's does?? I wouldn't be surprised if Ramsdell doesn't get a look at SF by the new coach, which I think should make him happy!!
I think Klein read that off of the Rivals message boards.
As Wojcik said, Tulsa lost alot of games by single digits or in OT so not much is needed to puch them over the edge. I think it's very possible to win more than 1/2 the games next year with only one solid JC recruit.
This lack of talent thing is way overplayed by the media and message board posters. You don't lose 20 games in 2 years by 8 points or less if you have no talent. You lose 20 games in 2 years by 15 plus points if you have no talent.
Phillips "new" system he implemented, to be blunt, sucked. He had no idea how to sub players or manage the clock. He had no feel for the game or the players from tip off until the final buzzer.
Pooh was close to reversing it but too much damage had been done.
Despite what Ashley says on Rivals, Tulsa isn't at ROCK BOTTOM quite yet and to expect 18 wins next year in not unreasonable.
I'm going into next season with *slightly* lower expectations than that. I'd be happy with a winning record... say about 14-15 wins. I think that's very doable.
If I had to guess, I bet Coach W uses one schollie this spring on a JUCO and has five for the fall. Use four of those on HS players and one on a JUCO and we've balanced out the classes for 2006 (3 - 3 - 3 - 4), plug a few holes for now and still keep our eye mostly on the future.
I agree with both of you, I expect between 15-18 wins next year. I, for one have never said we didn't have some talent. I have said we need an outside shooter but I don't think it would take much help to get to 15 wins, how good or how much help we get could take it to 18 wins. So far I like Coach Wo's attitude and what he says. I think he might be a real good one. I'm almost positive we will have a little bit of a mean streak around the basket next year, which might win 3 or 4 games by itself!!!
