Got an email yesterday from the Alumni Organization mailing list... looks like the Lege did alright by UH for 2006-2007. The General Revenue got a 7.9% boost ($30,601,205) and our Research Development ("Tier I") funding was restored ("Governor Good Hair" had originally intended to scrap it, no?) and almost doubled, with an 81.7% ($4,619,538) increase over 2004-2005. They also gave us some more dough for construction & renovation, if I'm reading it right.

The email had a link to a Word document with the whole budget & legislation report (I haven't looked at it yet): <a href='http://www.mycougarconnection.com/eblasts/cats/cats_2005_final_report/cats_final_report_2005.doc' target='_blank'>http://www.mycougarconnection.com/eblasts/...report_2005.doc</a>

Go Coogs!
I think when the initial document was passed the must have changed all the Hs in UH to Ts and then after it was passed they turned them back to Hs.

Tier 1 Research here we come. 04-cheers

Texas should have more than two universities that they kiss a$$ for. [sarcasm]By giving us more money and improving our perception, we could take a lot of pressure off the two premiere universities in Texas. [/sarcasm]

Well hell, Perry (a.k.a. "Governor Good Hair"... can't remember who called him that, it was either OTC or one of the Rice guys) is an Aggie, right? Like he could tell the difference. 03-razz

Hell yeah.

Texas is a big ol' place, and Houston is a big ol' city. UH should get much more than just crumbs. U$T and A$M act like if UH becomes more prestigious, it somehow hurts them. Of course money is limited, and giving UH more means there's less for them to roll in; but reputation doesn't work that way.

That bio-nano-whatzit thing (that Rice, UH, & the Med Center are teaming up for) is bound to help UH's reputation too. Yes, "bio-nano-whatzit" is the technical term. :D
