Steve Jobs just unveiled the new MacTV. It's AWESOME. It wirelessly transfers data from your pc to your TV, and has its own storage system. It's meant to replace/compete with Tivo, while also connecting to the Apple store and your iPod. But, it pales in comparison to the new:

iPod PHONE! YES! It's FINALLY HERE!

What does it do? Just everything on earth, that's what!

It's a WIDESCREEN iPod, Mobile Phone, and Internet Communicator, all in one device.

It uses a new revolutionary touch-screen system that's finger-print free and scratch-proof. No stylus, no buttons. It's been in development for 10 years. Steve Jobs calls it more revolutionary than the first Mac or the first iPod, and will change the way the world communicates. He's been right twice before with the first Mac and the first iPod. This time, I think he's hit a homerun.

He says it's five years ahead of anything on the market. It also runs Mac OS X!

3.5 inch, 160-pixel-per-inch screen.
11/16th of an inch thick
Automatic shift from portrait to widescreen when you rotate the device
Built-in speaker in addition to headphones for phone/speakerphone use
Comes with wifi and bluetooth to connect seamlessly with your other devices, computers, etc.
GSM and Edge
Comes with built-in Safari, Google Earth, Google Maps and can load Firefox, if wanted.

My God, it's the most beautiful communications device I've ever seen.

I assume it will appear on the Apple Web site when the event ends.
So, what is the MSRP? 500? 600?
Apple does it again 04-rock 04-rock 04-rock
STLouis Blazer Wrote:So, what is the MSRP? 500? 600?

Price $499 4 GB
$599 8 GB
Ships in June 03-weeping
CNBC is showing video of the presentation....phone looks sharp and has really nice features. I wonder how durable the phone is since it is very thin and has the sensitive screen.

Apple is also changing their name from Apple Computers to Apple, Inc. They are also in negotiations with Cisco to buy the rights to the name "iPhone".

Looks like the 4GB model will sell for $499 and should be available in June.
STLouis Blazer Wrote:They are also in negotiations with Cisco to buy the rights to the name "iPhone".

Why? Based on what I've read here, it's contains no phone capabilities.
It's really impressive, but it can't replace my iPod. Not enough capacity.

Do you really think they would call it an "iPhone" if it had no capabilities? Of course it has phone capabilities but every phone has that.

I'm sorry; what I meant to say was:

[sarcasm]Why? Based on what I've read here, it contains no phone capabilities.[/sarcasm]

Exactly. So why would anyone want to thrown down $500 for one?
Um, because of everything else it offers? iPod..software...etc
i so want one of these.
I think it's a marvelous device. It won't cost you anymore than if you bought a Treo and an iPod Nano combined with the equivalent memory, and you will get a much better product, with a much better interface, software, connectivity, etc.

I hate that you have to wait until June. No, wait, my cell phone contract with Sprint expires July 21. Perfect! I'll get one then.

What it includes is phenomenal. Yes, 8GB is less memory than what you can get in the video iPod, but I have a 60GB video iPod with more than 200 TV shows on it, plus more than 2,500 songs, my entire photo library, address book and three games, and I still have more than 20GB of memory free on the thing. I still store a ton more on my Mac that I don't have on the iPod, because I just don't want it there.

I will own one before the end of the summer.
I'll stick with my free phone I get every 2 years. I've had a cell phone since I was 17 and have yet to actually buy a phone. I have no need for all the other gizmos, and I already have an iPod.

Ahh, my little nerd-in-training, you don't seem to understand. It's not a matter of NEED, it's a matter of WANT.

I WANT an iPhone. I don't NEED an iPhone. I don't NEED a cell phone. I don't NEED an iPod. I wanted them. I got them.

It's too cool not to have one.

In theory, based on what it has, you can load Skype on it and have a Skype phone too, because it's going to have wifi connectivity separate from the Cingular service, so, it will work on any wifi network to which you have access. It will be my entertainment device, my only phone, my e-mail/internet connectivity center, and if the reports on CNet News and Wired.com are true, a radio. It's patent has not been approved yet, so it wasn't introduced today, but apparently it's also going to have a radio tuner built in. The damn thing has more than 200 patents in it already. It truly is innovative from the ground up.

Wow, you sound like one of us evil, greedy conservatives with all that selfishness being thrown around.

I have no clue what Skype is.

Have you been living under a rock for the past three years? Skype's just the ultimate computer telephone program. You can make telephone calls to any computer user anywhere in the world for free, and really cheap computer-to-phone calls anywhere in the world, too.

It's great, right BTR?
I think it's interesting Jobs didn't even mention a price for the phone. I'm guessing $399, which is RIDICULOUS for a phone. I hope wireless carriers offer a major discount with a contract.

Personally, I'm waiting for the latest multi-function phone....MP3 player/cell phone/toaster/hairdryer/toilet paper dispenser. ;-)

If you look up, you'll see the prices of $499 and $599 posted.

Oh, okay. Both the MSNBC and CNN articles said a price was not mentioned at the press expo today.

499/599 is even more ridiculous!
Skype is awesome... no wait, it is really awesome.

Around the world I have a local Birmingham, AL number that follows me. I pay... you ready? $36 per YEAR for the number. You may get a free phone but they get you each month. I pay $3 per month for my number and for unlimited (yes, that means unlimited) service within the US it is another $15 per YEAR. So, for less than most people pay for a monthly cell contract, you can have a skype phone for the entire YEAR with unlimited service. It isn't for everyone but for me it has been great.

My cell phone bill in Mexico was averaging over $200 per month (I travel a lot and there are no good plans here) prior to my skype phone. Now it is $50 w/ Blackberry service and cell phone service.

The new mac phone sounds good but honestly, I can't see it replacing my Crackberry. From a productivity standpoint, the Crackberry has been the best purchase I have made in my life. It is awesome. I would be lost (literally) without it.
I wonder how much Cingular will subsidize this thing.

As in, will it cost the consumer 499? Anyway, that is a badazz product. I hope Tmob can get it too.

Word is Cingular will not carry the phone.

Only T-Mobile and Verizon thus far.

So continues Cingular's notoriety for having the worst phone selection in cellular history.
Only Cingular will have the phone.

Or try reading a whole article or post for once. That's a good place to start.
It's much faster to answer first, and not read at all. All it costs you is looking dumb fairly often.

How about kissing my ***, that's a good place to start, as well.

Don't even bother replying...ignored.
