I am a member, but besides me getting a few items I haven't really attended any events. I have gone to the School of Business events. Usually the after work drinks the week of Homecoming. The SOB has had a few other events that were pretty nice and fun.
Maybe we can post here about the upcoming UAB NAS events to remind those of us to attend. I sometimes will go but if I knew a few people going I would be more likely to attend.
I am also a member (actually, my wife and I have the joint membership, because we are both alumni). However, I frequently don't get the mailings, they arrive after the event, or something else that stinks of incompetence happens.
For example, yesterday my wife received a mailing asking her to join the alumni society. A complete waste of money on the NAS part, and further evidence the right hand there doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
My understanding is that there is a reluctance to share information throughout the school between departments. That leads to multiple databases, with multiple sources of information, and usually incorrect results.
I never get any of the mailings. A couple years ago when I first joined I got 2 free tickets to a football game that happened a month previous.

Have you called to ensure that they have your correct address for both snail mail and e-mail?

I did not get it. I rarely seem to get anything the NAS sends out, until I call and/or e-mail and complain.
I re-upped my membership about a month ago, and got a an application to re-up in the mail yesterday.
