Dear Coaching Staff,
I hope you enjoyed this beautiful autumn Saturday watching some quality football across this wonderful country of ours. I am sure you learned alot today of how quality, competitive college teams compete for conference championships and align themselves for a photo finish of the BCS rankings.
First off, notice the emotion of some of the coaches whose teams are in the top 5 in the country. They get excited when a great block is made, a tackle , a great kick, or when their player simply hands the ball back to the referee after making a 95 yard punt return acting like they do it all the time. No "ladies and gentleman, I am AKA bam" to be seen.. no "ring around the rosie" to visualize. I witness coaches jumping up and down with their players on their sidelines celebrating with their players after making a great play.I saw coaches trying to motivate their team even when they are down by 30, no one moping around. Ladies and Gentleman, what a sight to behold! A staff that gets emotionally involved with their team! I saw players getting off the bus going into their home stadium dressed in sport coats or blazers, (excuse the pun) without ipods and or handsets, gratefully greeting fans and alumni , with huge smiles on their face in glee that so many fans endured their time to greet them, not simply walk down blazer walk with their head down, including coaches like they are getting ready for a legal injection, who some fans have stood for hours waiting on their gladiators entering their locker rooms to represent their schools. I saw coaches going over to their student section after a win, some even after a loss and thanking the student body for standing behind them win or lose not just simply going back to the locker room or threatening to go into the stands to jump on someone. I saw player introductions that went like: John Doe, number 22, Senior, Sometown, USA.... not " I am from parts unknown, you cannot handle me so don't even try, USA.
Small things add up.. things like this create the emotion for someone to go to games, buy a ticket, spread the word about a product of college football, and win or lose they will return.Sometimes it is the small things that make a big impact, not facililties or stadium (well... in rare cases) but a appreciation for the game and emotion towards your students, this being the case, your players. It starts with you guys, the coaching staff, your players are a example of you. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
PS. College football is EMOTION, just don't come out the tunnel arm to arm however, Auburn already has that.
