Finally it's come...
WHAT: Railroad Reservation Park groundbreaking ceremony
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 6th @ 10AM
WHERE: 18th Street and 1st Avenue
I really think this will not only help Birmingham, but UAB specifically.
I agree. This railroad park is a good idea. Work with what you have. Here we have trains, I am surprised no one thought of this sooner.
Works for me. More green space is always good.
Did you know that Birmingham has the second most urban park area of all USA municipalities? Want to say Portland beats us, somewhere in the great northwest.

but they are still way underfunded and underused. we may have a lot of green space, but it needs to be more accessible.

1st Ave North or South? That is an important two-block difference! ;-)

The side that the park will be on.

Oh, they thought about this a LONG time ago. However, like anything else in Birmingham (outside of UAB) they talk about it first and then maybe build it 5-10 years later.
The groundbreaking doesn't signify too much....it's just men & women wearing suits moving dirt around with fancy shovels.. Hopefully they have all of the financing and developers in place to start construction immediately.

Chances of that actually being the case are zero.
I hope ATTALLA's construction company

is in charge of this or else we are in for a big snooze...

I could not agree more with you Band Dad. Birmingham and its neighboring cities need to build more parks everywhere including sports parks for families and kids. It is nice that we have so many golf courses around the city, but we can never have enough parks!

Yup. Who wants to go to school with the slums 1 street north of campus? Who wants go to to school with a badass park RIGHT NEXT TO IT? I, for one, do!

We are #1 in the nation... recently surpassing Minneapolis, MN.
How many acres does Bham have?
