Swayze has about a 4 step runup to kickoff and he isnt getting much leg into the ball. Thats part of our problem with the long runbacks. We cant get any field position if our opponents start out on their 30-40 yardline after kickoffs. UGA's kicker killed our chances for any field position. We stunk it up against ECU also as I recall. Any thoughts folks??
ive been asking the same question for years...im pretty sure it isnt a situation where the kicker cant reach the end-zone...umm, im guessing its the same reason that the rest of our special teams sux (coaching)
The kicking tee's were reduced to 1 inch.
That is probably one reason.
Tenn kicker turns the tee up side down.
Okay, the Board moderator's are getting a little to power hungry. Why does this belong on the smack board?

Past UAB kickers have informed me that they were asked by the coach on occasions to not kick it out of the endzone. The coaches felt our special teams would have the ability to make a play within the 20.
To answer a couple of questions.
1. Our coaches, (Watson) will not let them.
2. Don't know why this one was moved because I didn't do it BUT I wouldn't have much heartburn over it. There is a fine line on the Watson issue on what is bashing and what is not. It is a very touchy subject right now. Criticizim is not bashing IMHO but criticizim threads have been turning into bashing threads. WE are doing our best to avoid any kind of meltdown on the board right now.

Well,if that is true, then Id have to say that its idiotic. Id much rather give the other team the ball at the 20 than risk the big runbacks we are giving up routinely. At least if the ball gets to the endzone, it will make the opponents have to make a decision, and a short delay would give our defenders a little longer to get downfield. I say, kick it high and deeeeep! Period!
I don't want to say who told me, (because they monitor our board) but you know who to ask that question to Blazerdawg...... ;-)

Bingo.
Put it in the end zone every single time. Force the opposition to go 80 yards every single time. (Please, no SMU comments)
To think we will consistently make plays inside the 20, when we have clearly demostrated that we won't, is folly in its purest.
All I know is that UGA with their excellent special teams consistantly refused to allow us a chance at a return by kicking it deep into the endzone all day.
We, on the other hand, kicked it short and then let them run a while with it. I didn't note many kicks where we dropped the return man inside the twenty.

Wasn't me.
