The US is blaming Iran and Syria for their support of Hamas and Hezbollah. Now Israel is allegedly threatening to invade/attack Syria as they're now doing in Lebanon.
I wonder if this is just all political grandstanding on the international scale, or are we really about to see a major conflict in the Middle East over these Israeli defensive attacks?

insurgency killing thousands in Iraq. A major force of our troops are right now patrolling the border with Syria to try to limit the flow of weapons and personnel from Syria.
Syria has vowed to come to the defense of Lebanon and Hezbollah. Here we go...
Syria enters into the conflict, it will be suicide. Israel will run them into the ground.

And if Israel retaliates against Syria, Iran will attack Israel.
If Iran attacks Israel, the US would probably attack Iran.
It's just a bad situation.

I could be wrong but I don't think that Israel would need US help with Iran. See, they aren't as concerned about civilian casualities and would probably strike hard. Who knows, Israel may take care of the Iranian nuke problem.
Thon only thing that really worries me about Syria are the unexplained trainsfers of materials from Iraq. Also, Iran has an agreement with Syria to transfer weapons to Hezbollah. There is a report out today that Israel destroyed a long range missile (80 miles) that came from Iran.
It seems that the policy with Israel is to only attack a country where an attack was directly launched from which I think is protecting Syria and Iran for now.
I suspect that the US and the UK are both going to do their damnedest to put pressure on Syria to tell Hezbollah to back down. May or may not have enough juice to get them to do it but I imagine it will.
