A week into the season, Mercer looks very impressive. Upstate did a lot better at Indiana than anyone expected.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Hatters are having a rough start.
Upstate has a very good Center. Probably the best in the league. I think he's better than Hodziac or however you spell it
Don't forget to brag on your own Camels. Great win the other night!
I agree. How about them Camels. I think we are going to have a good year. White Out night against the Hokies on Monday.
We're really, really, really terrible. We might well not make the A-Sun tournament.

I heard you only scored 10 points against FSU in the first half. UNCA only scored 14 on Tenn in the first half last night.

I thought your recruiting class was supposed to be your best yet
Camelfan - you heard correctly. It was awful.
Goldfinger - the freshmen are actually quite solid - Tyshawn Patterson may be the A-Sun Freshman of the Year and the redshirt frosh forward Ridge Graham is gonna be a good one too. It's the veterans that aren't coming through. Waugh locked up some locals in this signing period that he says will move us forward and I'll choose to believe him - he had his contract extended last week, so no point ill-wishing him. The last couple years they kinda swung and missed with some recruits and that killed all the program's momentum.

A little early for that prediction. I think that the whole league has performed pretty well sans the Hatters. Kennesaw beat two scrubs, but that is actually a step up for us :). We play a St. Louis team that handled Nebraska pretty easily a few night's back, so if we can make a good showing that will be an encouraging sign.
Jacksonville looked good against FSU for the most part, and I was surprised by the Camels win over ECU - I didn't see that coming at all. Lipscomb has been a little disappointing so far at least from the boxscore. It will be interesting to see if they are the team that a lot of pundits expect them to be this year.
First week impressions of Belmont's up and down start after listening to their first three games are:
1. Played a very nice game against a very solid Portland State team (won by 7). Portland State is picked second in the Big Sky and is coming off back-to-back NCAA appearances. We didn't blow them out, but controlled the game.
2. I thought we were very game against a top 15 Washington team on the road. We hung in there nicely. Lost by 18 against a team with a tremendous backcourt matching up with our very, very, very young backcourt. They hit a three and had a fast break dunk in the last minute to stretch it out a bit more than it was. We didn't have a chance, but didn't get humiliated by any means. Our inside guys showed there were up to the task against Washington's bigs scoring-wise, but we got drilled on the boards.
3. Wright State (solid mid-major and picked first in the Big Sky) got out to a fast start on us and put us in a big hole. We dug out and played a respectable second half, but really weren't in it in the second half. Lost by 9.
General thoughts:
- We've got very nice young talent
- Ian Clark is averaging 14 ppg as Fr. He can shoot, penetrate and pull up. Very nice offensive game.
- Our bigs are pretty good. Hedgepeth (So.) continued his solid finish and is averaging 13 ppg (terrible rebounding stats though). Saunders (R-So.) is averaging 11. Keaton Belcher (Sr.) has been showing a little more versatility than being just a tall shooter. He's averaging 12 ppg with a greater variety.
- Jordan Campbell is a good shooter, but hasn't been showing it. When he breaks out, we'll be much better.
- PG time is still split between Johnson and Hanlen. Need one to step up.
- We are negative on assist to turnover right now by -9
"may" is not a prediction, KB. However, it must be noted that Patterson averaged 17 ppg against the Gators and Seminoles (obviously it didn't save the team from getting their faces murdered, but que sera sera). I know you tout your guys Green and Cummings but they haven't even faced a Division I team yet, let alone BCS level opponents.
I'm still waiting to be impressed.
