Sorry Petit, I'm just soooo JACKED right now. This is going to carry over for tomorrow as well. My voice is gone. Wish I could be at UA.
GO BRONCOS BEAT VCU
I have conferences until 8. My school is on the west side of campus.
I figure the last two conferences will go something like............."He's progressing well, we've all had a F's, nothing a little hard work can't fix. Time's up, nice talking to you, got to get to my next conference. NEXT!!!!"

Screw conferences, Bronco Bball is more important.
I think you should outsource your conferences to the private sector. So much more efficient.
VCU Fan here.
I am giving you a quick rundown on our squad in hopes that one of you will return the favor on your squad.
We return 4 starters from last years CAA championship team, with our only loss being Eric Maynor (Who I know you are familiar with
Starting line up in our first game against BCU consisted of:
1)Larry Sanders – 6’11” Junior with a freakish wingspan, defensive player of the year last year in the CAA, this is a guy you will enjoy seeing play. Scores well near the basket, can struggle from distance but has improved in that area. Just a plain freak.
2) Joey Rodriguez –Junior- Undersized but makes up for it with tenacious on the ball defense and is generally near the top of the conference in steals. Led the CAA in 3pt % last year, high school team won the 6A florida state championship.
3) T.J. Gwynn – Senior who plays both forward spots. High Energy guy, has a knack for making plays when we need them. One of mine and many VCU fans favorites for this reason.
4) Bradford Burgess – Played point in HS on the state winning team with Ed Davis (of UNC) at Benedictine. Now a sophomore he can play as a big body guard well or as a SF equally as well. Shoots well from beyond the arc, would of led the conference but was just short on the number of attempts to qualify last year, Mcdonalds all American nominee.
5) Jay Gavin – Transferred in from Marist, plays SG naturally. This year is his first taste of VCU basketball, another VCU fan may be able to give you more information on him but I have only seen him twice. Shoots well, strong for his position.
Bench – Now when I say bench I mean guys that will still get minutes we routinely go 8 9 sometimes 10 deep.
Kirill Paschilnakov – Russian Junior National Team MVP when he was 16. Big body PF that will play as physical as anyone and will give up his body for the ball if needed. Shooting touch has improved, much more of a defensive player for us.
Brandon Rozzell – Great athlete, great shot, great hustle, good defender. He could start over Jay Gavin and it would not surprise anyone. Plays SG naturally but can run the point.
Ed Nixon- Possible our best on the ball defender, fantastic athlete, gets to the basket well but does not always finish. Decent shot, but his strength is his athleticisim and defense.
Issiah Grayson / Troy Daniels / Darius Theus – All Freshman guards, Grayson is smallish but handles the ball well and plays the point. Theus and Daniels were both great guards in high school, Theus was the 20th ranked pg in the nation last year.
David Hinton – I think hes a non scholarship player but I could be wrong on that, hopefully one of the more knowledgeable VCU fans will chime in on this. Good touch around the basket, other than Kirill and Larry this it the only other healthy size we have for this game, he will probably log a few minutes.
Injured/not yet eligible
Jamie Skeen – Not Eligible – Transfer from Wake Forest – Started a lot of games as a freshman for them but will not be eligible until Spring
Terrance Saintil – Injured- a big body, broken wrist I believe. Wont be back until spring.
what are the chances that this game shows up on Channel Surfing?

Good to see that somebody recruits Europe. When I tried to make an issue of that in this forum the resident Oberfuerher's told me it wasn't worth discussing-I didn't know what I was talking about. We needed to focus on landing up-and-coming Johnnie Cracklesnap, a 6' 5" forward out of Mio who's been looking pretty impressive in the Deer Lick League.
Yeah, the fact that VCU has a Russian player proves you were right.
Just my 2 cents on something here. Gerald Lee plays for ODU (F them and him btw) but he is Finnish and the centerpiece of their team (and while i hate to say it quite good)(on the VCU Board this would read hes soft, slow and can't play defense, on the ODU board it would read he was the preseason CAA POY pick). Look him up. There is merit to recruiting every part of the world if possible, however many programs dont have the budget to be scouting the whole nation let alone europe.
Quote:There is merit to recruiting every part of the world if possible
That's heresy in this forum. They'd rather be on the tail end of the 200 coach daisy chain going through midwest talent and grabbing the leftovers after the prestigious programs grab the lions share. Then wondering why we can't compete against those same big boys. I mean, like Duh!
Ok guys, now wade in and tell BP how we don't have the budget to recruit overseas. This discussion has developed it's own rut-tracks we can't break out of.

I'd say it has.

Guess this forgot to get included in BP's quote?
BP - Couldn't agree more with you about European/Asian players. Don't think for even a moment that major programs don't scour Europe for talent. Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, Russian and the Slavs are loaded. Quite a few of their stars turn professional and make big bucks rather than coming here for an "education". Ricky Rubio comes to mind. I use to watch the Michigan High School All-Stars play an age group European select team every year at Schoolcraft College. More often than not the Europeans were every bit their equal or better.
Gonzaga has a really good player from Germany I believe, maybe they'll loan us the dough to go over there and recruit.
Oakland has a 7 foot Serbian that is now a sophomore. He came to OU via a prep school in Missouri. He originally signed to play at Oregon State.
He broke his foot last season and missed about 1/2 the season. He has been less-than spectacular so far.
And VCU is 6.5 point favourites.

Yeah, and they refer to him as a TRUE FRESHMEN when in reality he's probably been playing against pros for the past 2 or 3 years. He's a great basketball player

Here's the link to the VCURamNation.com video coverage of our game in Richmond last year. While we lost a first round draft pick in Eric Maynor. We have another projected first rounder in 6'11 junior Larry Sanders still on the team.
As an aside, the Russian of whom you speak scored 15 points and pulled down 14 boards in our game last year.

Where we're coming with is this-there is gobs of information out there on US talent. A great deal of information on midwest recruits. The resident posters who follow basketball recruiting know these players, often see them play, are in their comfort zone when discussing them. They are not in their comfort zone discussing talent out of Europe or anywhere else.
I understand that. They want to see us grab the best players that they are familiar with. The supposition being if we grab players a notch or two above Kent State or BSU then we'll have a good class by MAC standards and maybe be able to steal a few wins against the lower top tier schools-or at least play competitively.
I understand the thought process, mostly agree with it. But you need to think outside of the box once in awhile or you never progress. Being a mid-major conference you need to try some different things or you're never going to find the talent to take us to the next level. There is talent elsewhere that is not anywhere near as picked over as it is in the USA. Maybe it's time we took a look for a player or two?
VCU is like alot of programs up and down, we have had a run recently of being up, with a win in the NCAA tourny and a near win with UCLA last year. I am surprised we are not more than a 10 point favorite tonight.

So am I with that kind of height advantage.
Game tips in less than an hour boys! Get your towels ready, its about to go down!
HOOK is on! ITS OFFICIALLY PREGAME TIME! WZUU.com for all you outta towners.
Sounds like this could be a horserace. As usual, I'm worried about a slow start, as well as us avoiding turnovers. Expect pressure from VCU. Fingers crossed about Mikey getting the ball up court.
Go Broncos!
I'm jealous of everyone at this game - I wish I could be in the crowd losing my voice right now.

Let me know how insider goes, I'm thinking about getting a subscription, but all I've heard is bad reviews.
Ditto. It's the place to be tonight!
I see no mention of our game on channelsurfing. They've got Ill.-Chicago at CMU listed. Ugh.
So, I'm left with radio and Buffalo at Miami football on the U (7-3 UB) and Toledo at Cincy in hoops at 7:30.
McLemore scores to start the game.
Bronco5 I still don't have my voice back from back-to-back Western sporting events. Saturday @ EMU-Football, Sunday @ Detroit-Basketball.

Ugh - I've been trying to convince my friends who go to WMU to go to basketball games but they are only interested in hockey and football. Even then they don't go to all the games. UGH.
VCU 14 WMU 6 15:25 remaining in the 1st Half-Media Timeout.
We're toast at this pace.
Man, those empty possessions are killing us. Sounds like we can hardly even slow them down.
game is on channel surfing...

Nice catch. We getting blown out. VCU is good. Our defense is bad.
Wow; that game was quick. Who do we play next?
Quickness, shooters and an aggressive full court press puts us in a deep hole early 24-9
Watching the game on channelsuffering reminds me how I don't like our court. I liked it a lot better when it was a simpler design back in the days of Reed, Kann, Berry etc
Has Lawson always been a wussy inside?
We need to slow the ball down and work through our offense. Taking too man shots early in the shot clock.
That's what a pressure D will do to you.

It will be better when the volleyball lines are gone.
We've seen this before far too many times. A talented, athletic opponent gets out to a quick lead on us, we can't hit the broad side of a barn and before the first half is even half gone.........
Why did I expect anything would be different this time around? I guess the only thing we can hope for is that VCU will suddenly go cold.

Maybe..
Appears to be a major talent difference here.
Maybe all the fouls will catch up with VCU - we better hope so
My IM team plays a better offense than the broncos do. Frustrating to watch.
Your IM team probably couldn't get the ball across the 10 second line against this defense
