Zachary signs with Qadsia - Sep 26, 2009 (by Ali Ahmed)
Al Qadsia basketball team management agreed terms with the American Guard Nick Zachery (191-G-79, agency: Pro Management Agency, college: UALR) to play for them this season 2009/2010.
A player with great scoring mentality, who can really knock down the 3-pointer. Anytime your team needs of some scoring, you can count on him. Broke Derrick Fishers 3 point record in college. A big time scorer with unbelievable range. Left handed guard who will contribute in all the aspects of the game using his handling technique & vision to give assists and will use athleticism to get the rebounds or use his quick hands to steal the ball.
Awards/Achievements:
HS all-conference and all-state selection
Sun Belt Player of the Week on Dec.3 -01
All-Sun Belt Conf. Team -02
Latinbasket.com All-Mexican LNBP Honorable Mention -08
Mexican LNBP Northern Division Finalist -08
Mexican LNBP Semifinals -08
Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League 2nd Team -09

We had dinner tonight with the parents and brother of a former teammate of our son who had been playing overseas for the last four years. The conversations confirmed what I had heard. The money can be great, but the contracts are very loosy goosey, and sometimes the players have to refuse to play until they get paid. And this is not at some low level leagues either, but at some of the supposedly top of the line European leagues.
Different sport, but similar story. An aquantance of mine played pro soccer in Europe and before he went, they promised him transportation when he got there and settled, he was expecting a car, he got bus passes and a loner bike.

I guess the article didn't mention that the team he signed with is in Kuwait, one of the richest countries in the world due to oil revenue. Whether that translates to how well or often players get paid is another question.

Nick will be hitting 30 foot 3 pointers when he's 100 years old, sitting in a wheelchair in a retirement facility.
