on roster could play for Western. I would begin with Mike. Especially at his current weight. He'll have a good season for us, and will probably be a force in the league this year. III is a proven shooter, a smart player, and would probably find a place on their roster. Maybe even as a starter, or at least a sixth man type. Alex probably fits the profile. Size, quickness, toughness and a pretty good shooter. Hard to know about Montrelle and Marlo. Bozeman might be able to play, but I'll have to see him before passing judgement. And the player who probably looks more like a Western player physically than anyone on our roster is Nick. I believe he would be a starter by his second or third season at Western. So IMO, we do have some players to compete with the best in our league. Our coaches have more to work with this season than ever before. They just have to figure out the pieces of the puzzle.

I would think Mike could play for anyone in the SBC when he is in shape. III at WKU? I don't know. They have a lot of guys who can shoot as well up there in the bluegrass. Shooters are not a rare commodity in Ky.

III reminds me of Patrick Sparks. He doesn't fit the profile of a great player, but somehow gets the job done. Remember. Not only is he our leading scorer returning, he led the team in steals last year, and it wasn't even close. He had eleven more steals than Brandon Patterson, a guy with a 7 foot wingspan on a 6'6" frame who was reputed to be a great defensive player. I think some of us just can't bring ourselves to admit we were so wrong about this young man. And some still find reasons to downgrade him. One thing he has is not only shooting skill, but court awareness and great heart and desire to keep getting better in all phases of the game. He told me one day, in the days when practices were open, that his goal was to become a great defensive player. I don't know how great he'll be, but you can bet he'll keep getting better. I think he could play a large role for nearly any team in the league, including Western.
