Sad but true.

Quote:Memphis had choice of Evans, Curry, Jennings, Rubio and Flynn as franchise PG. Instead, it's a double whammy - Conley and Thabeet
If Wolken thinks we would've been better off drafting Rubio, he's dumber than I thought. Rubio is locked into playing overseas and we would have nothing. Tyreke would be coming off the bench behind Mayo. Curry and Jennings have performed better than expected. Flynn is no improvement.

The more I hear from Wolken, the less I think of him. He wanted Scott Drew as our new basketball coach.
Anyone one of those guys would be better than Thabust and Conely combined.
Hindsight is 20-20. Thabeet was the consensus #2 pick from almost all credible analysts. The Grizz did the same with that pick that 25+ other NBA GM's would have done. Was it the right pick? Probably not, but it's not anything that Wolken can hang his hat on. He should stick to his Tiger beat and not try to second guess experienced NBA management people.

He didn't really want Drew as our coach. He did point out that Drew was a better candidate than Reggie Theus, Tim Floyd and some of the other ilk that was being talked about.

Flynn would certainly have been an improvement. He's currently averaging 14ppg, 3rpg and 4apg and 1 steal. Conley is averaging 9, 3 and 6 but playing more minutes.

Rubio would have come as #2 pick (money was enough at 2 to buy out contract).

Pairing Tyreke with Iverson & Mayo as backcourt trio would have been the right call as well.

For those who say "well 25 other GMs would have drafted Thabeet at 2", you are too naive. Most GM's were saying all sorts of things before the draft. It is called misinformation. Most people felt Thabeet didn't have enough upside to warrant the 2nd pick and most people knew the Griz were dumb enough to draft him.

Darko Milicic has been labeled a bust and his career will be better than Thabeet's.
do you guys actually care what wolken has to say. he's an idiot
How exactly is Wolken an idiot? I would love to know.

Because, outside of Memphis Tigers Basketball, tennis, golf, college hockey, and baking cookies, he has no idea what he's talking. Follow his tweets about Memphis Football and the Grizzlies and tell me I'm wrong.
wolken can only point out the obvious, anyone can do that
and yes wolken is an idiot
Lots of Woken haters, lol.

Wolken and Vernon both say the same thing about Grizz and Tiger Football, and neither are wrong about their assumptions 90% of the time.

Theus would have been better than Drew btw. He could have been big time, lol.
Iverson not on the floor with 6 minutes left and only down 12 was completely absurd last night. The one true scorer besides Mayo on the team is on the bench when it matters. I dont care if he starts or not because it really doesnt matter in the NBA but it does matter whos on the floor at the end. And dont tell me he's a defensive liability. There are mannequins at Dillards that can play better defense than most of the guys in the game.

I respect Dan alot also. However for him to say we should have taken Rubio, well, much of his credibility as a pro evaluator went right out the window. Stick to what you know Dan, college ball. We'll all be much better served.
The rights to Rubio would probably be performing better than Thabeet right now. They'd also have a higher trade value. Looking at all the PG's that were in that draft, the fact that we have Conley and Marcus Williams as our PG's right now shows how incompetent the Grizzlies' front office is.
wolken is ok by me.thabeet was a bad pick.should have gotten a pg or drafted reke as a point/combo.jmo
The choices I've heard here are dumber than any picks the Grizz have made over the last five years.
we should have went with value.thabeet is a stiff, always thought so. he does hang on the rim nice like oden does.
