How many jucos have we had who were good players for us, but whose juco records did not indicate that they would be pretty successful at the D1 level.
7..?
I'm going by memory here, but it seems that John Fowler had done in juco what he did here. Same with Shane. So we expected good things from them. My memory fails past that.

I think most jucos who were expected to be good here, had been good in juco. Those who weren't that good were mostly role players. At least that's my recollection.01-lauramac2

Why would you sign juco's that weren't good enough to start in juco ball? If they weren't good enough to start on a juco team, they probably aren't D-1 material.

I am sure that is generally true. However, Marlon, for example, may have started, but he did not have particularly impressive stats.

Then we shouldn't recruit starters in juco who don't have impressive stats. If a juco isn't a darn good juco, we should not recruit him or her. Why recruit players who aren't very good in juco ball, because they most likely won't be very good D-1 players. That's been our problem, we haven't recruited very well in recent years. We've recruited a bunch of players over the years who, quite frankly, weren't very good. I suspect we could recruit players in the metro area high schools that are as good or better than some we've had.
I suspect in Marlon's case it was because the saw him as a solid role player - defense and rebounding. Muscle underneath.

According to one of our coaches, Marlon wasn't utilized properly in Juco.
He obviously had some skills that weren't utilized. He did a lot of setting screens for other players, but was recruited by some bigger programs than us, so someone else saw something in him that we did.01-lauramac2

Well, that is what a good recruiter is supposed to do, especially at our level.
