This is the UALR Fall Sports Report for the weekend ending November 1, 2009.

Cross Country The Sun Belt Cross Country Meet took place October 31 in Monroe, LA, hosted by ULM. UALR men finished third with 86 points behind meet champion Middle Tennessee and South Alabama, respectively. Aaron Bately was UALR's top runner, finishing 7th out of 80 runners in the meet. UALR women finished 5th overall behind meet champion Western Kentucky. Jordyn Ratke was the Trojans' top runner of the meet, finishing 10th out of the 80 runners competing. Both Bately and Ratke earned Sun Belt honors for the conference meet.

Volleyball UALR had a rather difficult 2-week road swing in more ways than one, finishing with a 2-3 record. The Trojans split their 2 matches in Florida, losing to East division leader FIU, 3-2 and defeating FAU, 3-2. Before facing in-state rival Arkansas State, Coach Van Compton's husband Skipper had died. His untimely death shocked the entire UALR volleyball community and UALR Athletics as a whole. Our continued prayers and support go out to Coach Compton and family. UALR suffered a 3-1 match defeat at Arkansas State, then went on their final phase of the road trip, losing 3-1 at North Texas, before defeating a tough Denver side, 3-1. UALR (8-7. 14-12) comes home for their final 3 matches of the year, beginning with a return match with Arkansas State, followed by Denver and North Texas the following weekend. Simply put, UALR needs to win 2 of their last 3 matches just to qualify for the conference tournament. As it stand right now, UALR is at the 8th and last seed for the tournament.

Womens soccer UALR soccer has continued their up-and-down trend during conference play: lose on Friday, win on Sunday. Just like their volleyball counterparts, the Trojans at FIU, 1-0, but with goals by Christina Veasley and freshman Kamiya Merrick, they shut out FAU, 2-0. With that victory, UALR had qualified for the conference tournament for the 4th straight year. However, that euphoria was tempered with a 1-0 shutout defeat at Arkansas State October 30th. The Trojans (7-11-1, 4-6-1) will enter the conference tournament on November 4th as the 8th seed, playing the top seed FIU at 10:00 am in Boca Raton, FL. One more piece of good news is that top scorer Christina Veasley made the Sun Belt Top XI, making her the first UALR player in history to make the post season honors.

This has been your UALR Fall Sports Report.
I'm disappointed. I was hoping the mens XC might win it all this year.
