Posted something similar in an earlier thread but thought it needed to be put on the main board. I was at the MSU/FLA game last weekend. Got relatives down there and we were able to get tickets. Atmosphere was awesome. We got there at 1pm and walked around the tailgating area for a while. Then got something to eat at the student center where folks of all ages were eating and watching the UT/ALA game on 1 of the many plasma TV screens. Lots of energy around campus. When you walk around you just can’t help but think about what could be. There is just a different atmosphere when you have an OCS. And no matter what they do to the fairgrounds or the LB, it can’t match what an OCS brings to the table. The ideology about UofM football has to change. Photos below. Sorry some are blurry.

What they need is more cowbell.
My wife asked me during the telecast why they were allowed to ring cowbells because they'd been banned at SEC games.
What's the answer?
.
I was there as well the atmosphere was unbelievable. It made me want an OCS even more
I bet parking was a b!tch.

It actually wasn't to bad if You planned ahead of time
Go to an Alabama game and you will be blown away if that impresses you. They take it to a whole new level in Tuscaloosa.
As for the cowbells, the rule is not strictly enforced, though it should be because it gives them an unfair advantage during the games. God knows they need it though.
If we had an on campus stadium there would have been 4,117 there Tuesday night. How well is Lville doing this year in that magnificent Papa John's?
I've been to quite a few gams at MSU at it is a great college football environment, not unlike Oxford, Fayetteville, Austin, Gainesville.....

The cowbell rule runs in the following cycle:
Mississippi State sucks (most of the time): No one cares and the rule is not enforced.
Mississippi State is decent/good and beats a few of the higher ups in the SEC (very rare, '98-'00): One coach complains and the cowbell rule is more strictly enforced.
So, to answer your question Cletus, it's not enforced right now because no one is losing to them but if Mullen can improve the team, then you will see it being enforced more.

ive been a bama fan for 10 years and ive yet to make a trip to a game in t-town....ive heard theres nothing else like it though
My daughter, Sunshine, and her fiance (who is a FL fan 1st and now a tiger fan second) went and had a wonderful time !
Your cowbells can't be visible when you come to the gates. You basically have to hide it. Parking wasn't bad. They have many free lots open with no charge. Amazing, but it can be a long walk. We scalped some tickets for 75 dollars a piece. They ended up being right on the 50 yard line and 53 rows up. Incredible seats. First time I've ever had seats like that. (Excluding my years as a student)
I've been to several games in Starkville. That campus is one of the most beautiful you'll find. I ate in the cafeteria on campus once and it was like mama made it.
Yeah, Mississippi State also plays in the SEC and was playing the No. 1 team in the country with the most popular player in college football over the last 30 years. And I still saw empty seats.

I must disagree. State's campus is one of the worst among SEC schools. I've been to UTK, South Carolina, Georgia, Vandy, Alabama, Auburn, State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas, and LSU. Ole Miss, UGA, and Alabama are miles above the rest, and I'd say Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU are much nicer than State. South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vandy are urban schools, so its tough to compare. I can't say I care much for UTK, but their facilities (both academic and athletic) are far nicer than anything State has. So I'd have to put State right at the bottom.

Capacity is 55,082. They set a record with 57,178 at that game. Don't know where you were seeing empty seats. Could have been some of the people that squeezed into our section though or all the people standing on the ramps. It was ridiculously crowded on Saturday night.

Your seats were right behind mine. We have season tickets on the 50 yard line...my actual seat is on the 45 closest to the new jumbotron. 47 rows up. Great seats. I've been able to witness some really great football and also some really bad football. Even during its worst moments, State still probably averaged 45,000+ in attendance. The campus atmosphere is incredible and the campus is really beautiful. There is not an abundance of trees like in Oxford, but the two campuses compare very favorably in terms of beauty, facilities, etc. The weekend of the FL game, the basketball program broke ground on a new practice facility, so they are also continually upgrading the facilities as well. There is nothing quite like the on-campus experience on game day. The U of M is really missing the boat on not having an OCS. It's truly amazing to also see what BCS money can do for a program. I also watched some pretty poorly coached teams while Croom was there and I can already tell a difference with Mullen. Give him another year or two and he'll have MSU up near the top of the conference.

Agreed. There were no empty seats that night. Even the far upper corners of the upper deck were full. The cowbells were deafening. One guy in front of me had a sonic boom cowbell...loudest thing I've ever heard. The kid sitting next to me kept ringing his in my ear. I finally grabbed his elbow and showed him how to ring it up over his head so that he'd get it out of my ear. Still doesn't help much when there are about 40,000 more being rung at the same time.
For UCA Cheer Camp this year we went to MSU and as a sports fan it shocked me. Everything is so close to each other, from the football stadium to the baseball stadium and the basketball gym. Its amazing down there but the bad thing is just like Oxford. Outside of the university its bumble you know what.

staciemontero, you've got to make a point of getting down there for a game. Make sure you get into the stadium early enough to catch Coach Bryant on the jumbotron. The place goes crazy. If Bama wins, also make sure you stay till the end in order to catch Ramma Jamma Yellow Hammer. It will give you chills. Here's one from the UTK game a couple of years ago. Turn it up loud.

The 1st quarter my ears were ringing. Those cowbells can get loud if every freakin person has one. lol Might go down there for the Alabama game as well. Still in the process of getting tickets so I don't know how that will turn up. It will be packed again since Tuscaloosa is so close. Might be alot of Alabama fans there.
I went to the Mississippi State/ Georgia Tech game earlier this year. The nice thing about their campus is that it is in the middle of nowhere and you have tons of room to tailgate on.
Cowbells are fine and good, until you get a fan behind you who wants to ring them in your ears... keep them above everyone's head and they're fine.

Yeah, alabama does have passionate fans known to have guns and for using them after a loss.
If we could ever get into a bcs conference since all the money stays inside the bcs, we could have this type of stadium here too. Think about it....mississippi state has this stadium yet they really aren't known as a football power. They are just lucky to be in the sec which is the strongest of the bcs football leagues.

Yeah, even the so-called poor SEC schools(if there is such a thing) have boat loads of money.
Miss State has a great game day atmosphere win or lose. The campus is nice and one of the highlights of my year is going to the last home game of the year with my wife, Brother and Sister in law and my two nephews. Win or lose its a good time and I agree an OCS is a completely different experience than the NFL feel of off campus stadiums.

As usual UM2001 must be wearing blinders because the MSU Campus is beautiful and they have an outstanding Landscape Architecture program.
But the lack of enforcement by the SEC just reinforces how 2nd rate the SEC Leadership is. Same with how they police SEC referees.

I didn't say "at the top". I said "near the top". I don't think he'll be able to compete with AL or LSU in the near term, but I also don't think he'll keep getting beat by ARK and OM either. This team has already gone from being poorly coached/managed to one that is competitive. They aren't winning games yet, but they're getting close to being able to beat some people. They had LSU beat this year and with the addition of a capable QB, they'll beat some people next year.
Their biggest problem this year is a 5'-8" QB that gets at least 3-4 passes deflected at the line every game. Against FL, they got picked off and returned. He had a game winning TD pass punched back in his face on the goal line against LSU.

State does not have a great campus. The architecture from one building to another doesn't match, they're woefully underfunded so most buildings are lacking in upkeep, and the landscaping is awful for a school that claims to have a top-notch landscape architecture program.
