And they've got TACOM. I knew there was a reason I didn't mind going to Detroit so much. It reminds me of the 'Ham.
'The Dome' carries too much baggage as a project, fairly or unfairly.
The thing that unifies both pro and con sides? They know Legion Field and BJCC Arena need replacing. IMO, the politically smart thing to do would be to split this effort in two: One modern, 50k college football/soccer stadium and one modern 19k sports/events arena, both downtown. And build them both at the same time.
It's easy slur 'da dome' in Birmingham, it's one mega project tied to a few officials. But slurring two significantly large projects simultaneously isn't as easy, and detractors will have to work twice as hard finding unified opposition to both--if they can find much at all.
