Is that really all you can say? I was hoping you were going to try and say something that disproves my logic. Look, I haven't been around for 4 decades, but I know more than some of you 70 year olds on here when it comes to the game of football. Things have changed since you were in high school and facemasks weren't even around yet. We are all tiger fans here and want the best for the program. The difference is you like to throw jabs every once in a while when I just cut to the chase. People on here don't like me for it but oh well.

The FACT is Brett is a great guy, but he can't throw it well enough to be effective in this offense. Seriously just go to practice or ask anyone who has seen the team play during scrimmages. I like Toney but he isn't the answer.

I'm not impressed with your attempts at a witty comeback. I also am not 70. I stated one fact about the guy and even said that I know he's not the best quarterback. Can you not read and comprehend?
Since you're obviously a genius, explain to me how he won the Southern game last year and than managed to at least not screw up the SMU game. That was my only point. I know he's not the answer. I didn't even say that I wanted him to start. I just don't want them to waste the redshirt for the freshman.
Also, do yourself a favor and change your tone. You're acting like a whiney little brat.

gringostarr- get over yourself ... congrats on knowing that bret toney is 2-0 as a starter. i guarantee you are one of two people who know that. you and bret toney...listen to bigdawg51, b/c he is the only one making sense. go to a practice and watch bret toney, or ask anyone who has played with the guy and they will tell you, he's a hell of a kid, but not a d1 athlete...he did however beat so. miss last year sorta, he was pulled for Bass who tore his knee up so they had to go back to Toney. which if i remember his numbers were like 9-15 for 110 yds that's great for Bret Toney too b/c the kid can't throw the ball farther than 40 yds but so. miss wasn't good last year and we had a great o-line and a healthy steele, and SMU won A game last year, they are a horrible team...maybe that's why Helton has all these screens in his offense b/c he recruits qb's who can't throw... gringostarr ,tigertommy, and tigeredwards you all need to get together and coach a peewee football team b/c that's about where ya'lls football IQ level peaks.... I'm so tired of reading these blogs that are usually filled with intelligent people discussing football, but you three guys stand out like sore thumbs b/c of ya'lls idiocracy when it comes to football. stop blogging and go away, and don't bother coming to anymore home games b/c real tiger fans don't want you there

I got next! Will is a very average QB. We lost the game last night. He missed throws, the special teams sucked, the defense gave up in the 4th qtr, as usual.
It's not all on the QB, but the fact the Will is the one the current coaches want to play just tells you how bad this program is right now. If Bass is healthy he's the starter.
They have thrown Hall under the bus, and I don't blame them.
I tell you what, Gilchrist and Cannon Smith better be what they are built up to be, because if this coaching staff is back next year, we are going to need divine intervention to get this thing straightened out.
We have a lot of problems. A gamebreaker QB will help, but he won't be playing defense or be on special teams, or calling plays.
The wheels have come off this bus.

Bigdawg51- man i appreciate your words, it is refreshing to read another post that makes sense and isn't just filled with how horrible TW is and the reason why we aren't having a good year is solely b/c we don't have the greatest facilities...let me blow everyone's mind with something, back a couple years ago one of the best program's in the country was playing in an old stadium, with horrible facilities but they were grinding out conf. championships and a even a nat. championship.. this little team was the U....for guys like gringostarr and tigertommy this means the University of Miami.... facilties don't win games, fans don't win games, but bad coaching and a horrible game plan sure as hell will loose you a game...take a not from bigdawg51 and stay home rik moranis... this is men talking about football and since you are the little lost boy in this convo. shutup and sitdown...you don't know what you are talking about and hey guess what if all you are going to do is get on here and bash great kids that play the game the way it should be then stay your *** at home b/c we don't want you wearing blue....

When did I bash any player? When did I say one word about facilities? When did I ever defend the total ineptness of out OC?
You just want to hear yourself talk and feel like you're doing something by calling folks out on a friggin' message board.

Well, if you had been on the site for years you would've realized that many of the posts you and your fellow noob have been making have been debated on this board for years. We've been complaining about TW's coaching for at least three years, facilities for 1000 years, and the athletic director and president for 1 million years (give or take).
Other than making a few posts calling out people, neither one of you has come up with an original thought. You act like you've got all the answers, but a simple use of the search feature would show you that the answers have been here for a very long time.
As for Will, great competitor, great heart. Still doesn't make him a good QB. He's been here longer than most of the staff, yet he's still prone to wild throws and interceptions. He gave up seven points in the 3rd quarter of the USM game by tossing that pick. And the one on the USM 15 at the end of the game was no great thing of beauty either. Like I said, great competitor, great heart. But we could do a lot better at QB.

I have been a part of this blog for years and I have read a lot of stuff in my day but there has been nothing on here other than the same guys complaining about the same stuff, and guess what, you are all wrong....shutup about the facilties b/c we are not getting any new ones anytime soon.... we don't recruit the city of memphis at all....our coaches are horrible, we don't develop talent b/c our coaches think juco is the best quick fix....HORRIBLE IDEA.... and then above it all the fans don't even appreciate the hard work these guys do b/c none of you have ever played college football....FACT... so when some people put up some new posts voicing their well educated football opinions on these sites you get all these negative feedbacks from people who think they know it all.... well guess what... you don't know a damn thing, and when you get on here and single out people who say what they feel they are greated by "pimple face prick" you.... who the hell are you...Have you even played organized football? at any level?.... no answers required b/c its obvious by your posts.... so when you come across a post that says something different from what you think you need to stop and remember these steps...1. when finished reading b4 you type anything remmeber this" I've never played football. 2. think about what was said and think if the guy who said it might be smarter than you. and finally 3. right b4 you start to type your post say to yourself I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT AND I'M AN IDIOT......now i know that some people may be affended by this post but i'm not the one throwing around insulting names... i'm just the guy who actually knows what he's talking about as a former d1 football player who played at a real program

Pretty much everybody that you obsessively berate here are saying the exact same stuff about the programs' problems that you are. The big difference is they've been saying it for 2-3 years now. Somehow you just keep missing that.
By the way I never left you any negative ratings.
By the way I never left you any negative ratings.

Exactly! Nothing but alot of flaming other posters in this thread. Nothing original except of a couple dudes having a bromance over sharing an opinion that the majority of Tiger fans have had for a while. I would say welcome to the board, but both seem to be here to just insult the intelligence of others and start some juvenile name calling. Is that how you treat fellow Tiger fans? Seriously? And then expect anyone cares what you have to say?

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life...You obviously don't know a damn thing about football and how it should be played...B/C if you did you would hva enever posted this dumb*** comment...so you want to have a 3 qb roation that has your best arm only in to throw the ball deep, a youngmkid who ran the ball well only once against a 1AAteam in UTMARTIN, and a walk on that holds kicks and never gets any reps in practice to come in and throw TOUCH passess...Have you ever seen Bret Toney throw a ball in practice...he's horrible which is why all he does is hold kicks...if you are going to write dumb suggestions on a football messageboard and you know nothign about the game this is the response that you will encounter...Hudgens played well last night, he had the special teams cost us the game we all know that but also the offensive PLAY CALLING WAS HORRIBLE...what is it about Clay Helton and running draws out of a 4 wide set that gets him no yards doesd he not understand, oh yea but he did keep calling for swing passes that really kept the defense honest...FIRE Clay Helton and get a new OC. like Hugh Freeze and go get a new young Head Coach...Hudgens is the qb for this year, if you want to see the Tigers have asny chance of winning football games the you better want Hudgens running the show!

the funny thing is that it seems that there has been a couple of people who have posted threads about Will Hudgens this year and on every one of them its the same 5 guys who get on here and start bashing the kid....everyone knows he's a class act... but the same 5 guys just don't give the kid quite the credit he deserves for what he is capable of... Will should have been the starting qb for the past several years, and when you get on here and say he's overthrows too many wr's and throws int's, well ok.... but what qb doesn't overthrow wr's and throw int's... b/c her's a hint, that qb does not exist... you say play Bass when he's healthy, why? he beat UT MARTIN... he can't throw the ball and the offense doesn't work...the record show for what Bass can do...Forget Arkelon Hall b/c we all know that kid is not the option.. n.... So here's the 6th year man, back from two broken legs and pro baseball...the kid who gave ole miss all the wanted everytime he played them...every game he's played in he's come in and instanly the passing game changed for the better... i post on this blog not to get into bitter arguements with fellow tiger fans, but i find its a great way to interact with fellow fans and gather better info. on my home team, but when i get on hear and read some of the most idiotic ideas by tiger fans i feel i must try and be a voice of reason, but its the same people that are alwyas opposite for the stupidest ideas....so i tell you what, i am willing to stand on the tiger walk next tuesday night before the game against ECU holding a sign saying " I am Jimmy Dugan 85"... if you would like to come and finish our discussion about how you feel about the will hudgens and the tigers there, maybe we can gather an audience so we can all share the genius ideas of tigertommy, tigeredwards, theothergregchiders, and gringostarr and see how they are met by true tiger fans who know what we are talking about.....

Why do you insist on including me in this discussion about Will Hudgens? I've never even mentioned him this thread. I actually appreciate the kid. My concern is that he winds up with a third broken leg behind this O line.
As for Toney. This season is done. At some point it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see him get a few series.
Quit issuing challenges to "meet" with certain folks. I assure you, you don't know who you're dealing with.

If Tyler Bass were healthy, he'd put Hudgens back on the bench.
Tyler's completion percentage for the season is 65.4% compared to Will's 55.8%.
Not to mention that Tyler's yards per attempt is 8.3 while Will's is 6.7. The longest pass of the year was an 85 yarder from Tyler. That's a whole lot further than Will's season high 51 yarder.
Tyler also has 180 yards rushing. Will has -23.
Unfortunately, Tyler is hurt. Our only options at this point are Will, Arkelon, and Brett.
At 2-5 the season is shot. The Tigers are in last in the East, about to play ECU who is first in the East. One more loss eliminates the Tigers from a chance at the division, and two more losses eliminate them from bowl eligibility.
Since the season is shot, I'd start Brett. Will and Arkelon are seniors and will not be back next season. With the losses of Steele and Calhoun, the Tigers will be extremely inexperienced at the offensive skill positions. Give Brett some reps so that he can go into the spring game with some real game experience.
Either way, this season is shot. No sense making next season suck as bad this one.

Man do you even watch the games? You do realize that the 85 yarder was a screen pass? And his yards per attempt is high because he throws half the amount of passes that Will does. If Will throws 20 screens a game for 100 yards and Tyler only throws 10 screens for a 100 yards, gee I wonder what that does to yards per completion? The qb runs what the OC calls so Will's yards per attempt will stay down as long as Helton calls the same friggin play. Hell I could go out and throw 15 screen passes a game and make a 64% completion rate. Don't even bring up rushing yards because not ONE play that I have seen was a scheduled run for Will, Tyler had at least 12 a game.

And his yards per attempt is high because he throws half the amount of passes that Will does. If Will throws 20 screens a game for 100 yards and Tyler only throws 10 screens for a 100 yards, gee I wonder what that does to yards per completion?
They've both played in four games. They both have 53 completions.
Tyler has 81 attempts. Will has 95. Not exactly throwing for "half" as many.
I watch the games. I watched Bass throw screen pass after screen pass, with the occasional fade route thrown in. With Will supposedly having a stronger arm (and more experience), he's more likely to throw deep than Tyler but Tyler still has more yards per attempt.
The fact is that Will isn't that accurate. Never has been.
His career stats:
2009
53-95 (55.8%) for 638 yards (6.7 yards per attempt), 5 TDs, 4 INT
2008
10-24 (41.7%) for 123 yards (5.1 yards per attempt), 3 TDs, 1 INT
2007
52-104 (50.0%) for 587 yards (5.6 yards per attempt), 5 TDs, 0 INTs
2006
2-4 (50.0%) for 14 yards (3.5 yards per attempt), 0 TDs, 0 INTs
2005
33-62 (53.2%) for 413 yards (6.7 yards per attempt), 3 TDs, 2 INTs

The problem is not with the team, they have the talent to win. The problem iis two fold.
1. Clay Helton's play calling sucks. He does not have the vision to make these calls.
2. Tommy West does not have the vision to remove Helton.

What exactly is the argument anyway? I know we have had some of Will's family on the board posting alot, but for what reason? Will is our best option at QB right now. Even more so because Tyler is hurt. Arguing over who is better between Tyler and Will is silly considering Tyler is probably done for the year. But making Will out to be more than what he is doesn't show much football knowledge, IMHO. There are legit reasons he has been a career backup. Will is a great kid and great Tiger. However, as a D-1 QB, Hudgens is mediocre at best. Right now Will is the best bet over Toney and Hall. But I see no need to be arguing over how good a career backup is doing on a 2-5 team with only 1 D-1 win.

Will is our best option right now. I wish we had a team full of guys with the heart that he has- not to mention his love for the Tigers. Hell, it looks like thats a better way to go than the "hired hand" approach.
Will is just one of those guys that would be awesome @ the FCS level, but isn't quite good enough to be an FBS starter.

I still don't understand the argument or point to this thread. Everyone seems to agree that Will is about as good as we have right now. We have a couple of people just acting juvenile with name calling an chest thumping over what exactly? I mean seriously, you are being very objective or knowledgable to fight with people that support the program just to make Will out to be the next Brett Favre. This whole thread is lame just like those who are grandstanding for attention. The name calling and long tirades are really just a wast of space. I know I haven't read several of those long temper related rants. I still don't know what the two newbies are arguing about except being attention whores who think they know more football than God even with all the hot air being blown around.
Really classy attacking long time Tiger supporters as I know they have already called out a couple people that actually care and go to games and are part of the HH. Considering our lack of fans, this seems really childish to me.

Main problem with Will besides his ineptitude at QB is that he is that he is gone as soon as the season is over unless he asks to be permanently on the team and gets to play until he is 60. At this point the season is over and all we have to look forward to is next year. I'd be much more interested in watching some guys with eligibility remaining get some valuable experience lose over a bunch of has beens playing out their final days.

Thanks for that one moment of sensible reality. Will has an arm, that's it. No mobility. Two bad wheels. Just to think a couple of years ago he and Malouf were our short yardage running QBs. How things change.
Tebow isn't the greatest passer in college football, he beats more teams with his feet than his arm, see the last drive against Arkansas. That's the combo QB you need in the spread that we run. anyone who can't see that doesn't watch much football. There are a few rare exceptions, like Mallet at Arkansas, but man if you had him, you'd just ask him to throw it 50 times a game and your running game would open like crazy.
A healthy Bass gives us the best option to win. Next year? I don't know anything about Smith and Gilchrist until I see them in action. But we have a LOT of other problems.

And yes, we do have friends of players and their families come to boards all the time trying to educate people, but they fail to recognize most of us have been around for a bunch more players over the years than their kid or buddy. Nobody dissed Will, you just seem a bit out of sorts on his talent. But win or lose, he's the best we got right now.
My problem has been with you and how you feel it's okay to tell people they don't have any class for example. You don't know me and at no point have I said anything to you personally attacking your character. So next time please look in the mirror before accusing someone of something.
Look TE, I've had family play at Memphis, many friends coach there over the years and I've had friends play there. So I don't want you to take my comments as somethign that's coming from a fan that has no clue what they're talking about, or someone who doesn't know and respect the program. Let's agree that he's the best right now and have that be the end of it. You make yourself out to be someone that's a grade above evryone else when you really aren't, at least you don't portray yourself to be. You have this conspiracy theory on who these posters are, when in reality we may just be a bunch of guys who hate reading the crap some people put on here. I'm not necessarily saying you fit in this next category, but a lot of people on here aren't in touch with the current program like I am and some of these other posters are. It's easy to say you've been in the Highland Hundred for years, so have I. Myself and my family have supported the Highland Hundred and the program even when we shouldn't have because the ball has been dropped many many times. It's sad the way the program has turned, but a lot of people don't know the real reasons why. They think they know, but they really don't know a lot of things that go on behind the scenes. I don't know you from Adam but from the way people talk about you on here you may be an exception. But please don't thing you are talking to some punk kid. I'm not going to sit on here and let people talk about anyone who doesn't deserve it. If you don't like me well that's fine because the feeling is mutual.
