Any tough questions asked?
Quiet and respectful. Pry was the assistant who spoke. West talked about the offense and its struggles. Questions were asked about injuries and who might start at QB this week(not sure yet). It was a quiet night.
Id quiet a change from the usual?
(10-06-2009 11:24 PM)fsquid Wrote: [ -> ]Id quiet a change from the usual?

The questions are usually addressing injuries, plans for the next game, or about specific things from last game that West brings up(such as the fumble call that we missed out on). It is normally respectful. We get honest answers and rarely is anything dodged.

Probably because no tough questions get asked. If the HH is anything like it was back in the 90s when I was a member, it's a good ole boys back-slapping club. They'll kiss the coach's arse all the way up to the day that he's fired.
It's an open forum...anyone can ask their question. There are 1,000 members...seems to me if they wanted to ask their questions they'd show up and ask them.
Everyone is scared of big bad Tommy?
First off, anyone that would allow me to have been on their board is certainly not "good ole boy back slappers". I am a not a wealthy banker, lawyer, Fedex exec, bond daddy type...I play music for a living. The people who are officers post here, have regular jobs, and are not rich. I know them all. The opportunity to ask questions is there but some actually are really smart enough to understand that asking something like "When you gonna quit", lol, is not the classy thing to do? Come on, now.
All that one has to do is plunk down $125 and be a member. Don't forget...we actually use that money to support football. It doesn't end up in RC's pocket. Being big and brave here is different that being a smartass in person. No one is scared but why be a asshat? Treating someone about to lose their job with respect is the right thing to do. No one is afraid of Tommy West. Some just see no reason to treat him classless since we actually treat people the way that we want to be treated. On a personal note...in all of my years, I have never had anyone dodge a question in person at practice, at a meeting, or in another setting(other than Dempsey). Not once. To be honest, I get more info being a good guy than I would if I was a jerk. I see no reason to change that. Trust me, I rubber stamp no one.

Why does everyone think bankers make so much money? I've been in banking for 4 years now and have seen no money. Maybe if I own a bank one day????

The HH is a booster club. I wouldn't expect any lynchings at the meetings. I'd expect it to be, more or less, a safe haven for the coaches. Usually when things are going really, really bad people just stop going to the meetings and attendance is way down.
....Good job....It comes down to whats appropriate and whats not appropriate.
Nice post Strat57. We all needed to hear that.

Well you know of all people, I have no room to talk about anyone with a "southern dialect", since I'm from central Mississippi myself.
I like the sentiment here. Too many people take sports so seriously that coaches have received endless criticism, have been subjected to name calling, even threats to some degree. The man's job may be on the line, a little respect is in order, I have to agree. We all want a winning program, but lets keep our dignity. I believe most Tiger fans will agree. Also, anyone with "Strat" as part of their moniker has to be pretty cool... 04-cheers

we dont miss you at the meetings ogc.

the highland hundred is a football "boosters" club. it raises funds to support the football program. funds that are used for things like: feeding and caring for tom, video equipment for game analysis. and a banquet for the senior players, etc.

at the meeting members express support for the team (believe it or not this includes the players, staff, and coaches). tough questions are asked and answered each week. the toughest having usually been addressed by tommy in his opening remarks before he opens the question period. tommy is usually tougher on himself than any of the questions asked on this board. he makes coaching decisions and he goes through his thinking process on the difficult decisions. tommy is extremely knowledgable and is willing to share that knowledge with anyone who is willing to listen.

if you ask a question that is rude or disrepectful, tommy will look you in the eye and let you know exactly what he thinks of it. after which he usually receives applause. there are more than a few who have been chastened in this manner.

you are all welcome to come and ask you tough questions. just pay your dues, and spend a couple of hours at the tuesday night meetings before you do. you should ask from an informed position.

i appologize for being late. i park near the door for that reason. i leave immediatly so i will not incovience anyone by blocking their exit. i have appologized to tommy for my tardiness of late. the business i am in is going through some difficult times right now and that requires work, much work. every tuesday i strive to finish in time to be early to the meeting. times are just tough right now.

what was it about my initial statement that drew your criticism? or have i offended you in some other way? please bring it to my attention at the next meeting. i will try to be early.

I gotta say I was there and when I told my wife about it, she just kinda yawned. 'same ol', same ol''....to which I replied 'that's fine by me and that's why I go.'

HOWEVER, when I told her about the Tigerkeep episode, she really liked hearing that drama play out, lol. The wife was very bored and quickly changed the subject when there was no drama. Oh well.
Wow, change love to hate and that sounds pretty familiar!?!

Strat, you are right about the way Coach West should be treated. I listened to Sports 56 the other day and they were talking about Coach Bowden. I actually agreed, that he should announce his retirement so that the rest of the year could be a celebration of what he has done for FSU... couldn't help but think the same of Coach West. Unless something drastic happens, he is gone and I would hate for it to end this way. At least we could honestly look back at '03-'05 and see just how solid those teams were (even if they were ONLY two players 01-wingedeagle)

Whatever happens, I hope it is handled the way it should be done.

I understand WHY the HH meetings wouldn't be jam-packed with people doing nothing but grilling TW over the "tough questions," but you CAN ask some of them and be respectful at the same time.

It's not disrespectful to ask the coach to explain why the lack of progress in the past few years, or why it seems that this year the team just isn't behind the staff, etc.

we dont miss you at the meetings ogc.

the highland hundred is a football "boosters" club. it raises funds to support the football program. funds that are used for things like: feeding and caring for tom, video equipment for game analysis. and a banquet for the senior players, etc.

at the meeting members express support for the team (believe it or not this includes the players, staff, and coaches). tough questions are asked and answered each week. the toughest having usually been addressed by tommy in his opening remarks before he opens the question period. tommy is usually tougher on himself than any of the questions asked on this board. he makes coaching decisions and he goes through his thinking process on the difficult decisions. tommy is extremely knowledgable and is willing to share that knowledge with anyone who is willing to listen.

if you ask a question that is rude or disrepectful, tommy will look you in the eye and let you know exactly what he thinks of it. after which he usually receives applause. there are more than a few who have been chastened in this manner.

you are all welcome to come and ask you tough questions. just pay your dues, and spend a couple of hours at the tuesday night meetings before you do. you should ask from an informed position.

or you could park at the front door, come in late, get a little attention then be out the door and be on your way.

Trust me, it is addressed. You might not always hear it in public but there are no secrets. In fact, West and Sherer both have always been upfront to membership, either in public or private.

I think what we really need is a litmus test to prove true fandom. 1st test should be never dying love for current football coach regardless of record unless of course he moves on to another job. Then he becomes a scumbag. 2nd test should be the "look at me I come to the games to prove I am a better fan than you" test.
I don't know--I remember a rather awkward Q&A session with Joe Lee.

Witty comeback, nimrod. What do you do for an encore?

Allow you to prove me right.

When you're done sniffing TW's jock, you can talk.

Dude, you stink.
