I don't think it's that bad. June Jones has SMU competitive in his 2nd year at SMU, and he more or less cleaned house when he got there. We may not hire as good a coach as June Jones, but I can hope right?
Hell, hire Bobby Alston or the coach at South Panola. Can it get any worse?

I agree, that was a total joke. It worked on 3rd and four the last set of downs, so Tommy thinks "Well, hell! It worked on 4 yards why wont it work on 10?!"

And, just because Bower is available, I would not like to see us hire him, either. I think he was a guy that TW could beat, so I doubt that hiring him would be a step up.
On the other hand, after we saw all the lack of interest in our basketball job and had to hire a first-time head coach, what makes us think that good football coaches are going to be dying to come to Memphis? Personally I think Pastner will turn out to be a great coach, but how much harder will it be in football? Basketball is one year removed from the NC game, but our football program is in the bottom if the barrel right now, in terms of players, schedule, facilities, etc.
I'm afraid that lots of coaches will see this job as the kiss of death. Even if we get somebody who will take it at $1MM per year, what kind of staff can they get for the money we offer?
I'm getting more depressed as I think about it.

At least three times on Saturday, I had Darius Marshall trapped in the backfield only to let him break away and bust off a 20-yard gain. If only someone had coached me the proper way to tackle. In the interest of accuracy, Tommy didn't think that, Clay did. I still say the record would be considerably better with Fictner (sp?) calling the plays with the talent we have on the field.

No, they are not part of the problem and neither are you or anyone else on this board. The only problem we all truly have is letting the same intense passion we all share for our school to divide us.
I may not personally agree with not showing up to games but those who do are only driven to that point because of the intense desire you see the program and school succeed. They're frustrated as well are. They don't berate players. Now, "being done " until there is a coaching change may not or may not be the best way to handle it but it's not an indication that someone doesn't care deeply for our Tigers. I know some of these guys. They have a great love for our Tigers.
I don't associate loyalty to coach with loyalty to a team and program. Some here do and while I do not personally agree with that stance it's born from that same passion as everyone else. I know you'd give the shirt off your back for any one of our players if need be. It's a pure love you have for this team. I really do believe that. It's passionate.
I know this won't stop the bickering, back-biting, neg reps, etc....... but I just wanted to say something about this given what I've read and participated in the past few weeks. I'm nobody special and certainly not a better Tiger fan that anyone else and I don't mean this to come off as a kum-bay-ya campfire post. Just had to speak from the heart for a minute.

The media here in Cincinnati TRASHED the athletic department for firing Rick Minter. They said they wouldn't be able to find anyone nearly as good as him. They went on to hire Mark Dantonio and Brian Kelly. Oh, and we only had one down year during that stretch.
Some of these guys are comical the way they describe a "bad" fan. I know I was one of the 12-15K watching that ridiculous display last Saturday. If wanting the team to be better makes me a bad fan then so be it.
